The mounts are designed to attach to the short sides of the solar panels, near the corners to allow for manual tilting. No penetration is needed when installed on fiberglass or metal roofs thanks to the VHB tape. When installing on rubber, tpo or any rough surface, the included mounting screws are recommended. Am solar was founded in 2002 & has performed thousands of RV solar installations without having a single panel detach from a roof. The mount adapters attach to the solar panel with a bolt passing through a 1/4" hole in each corner of the panel's aluminum frame. Solar panels not sold by am solar typically do not come with these holes & they have to be drilled on the bottom side of the frame, centered 1-3/8" from the short edge & 1" from the long edge. I'm glad I didn't have to drill through the roof of that $3000 tent shell! The 3M VHB Tape grabbed onto the fiberglass very solidly and it will remain solid even when off-roading. As for use, the captive nuts the manufacturer used make all the difference! Good engineering! All the other mounts I looked at used nuts, bolts, and washers that would be fiddly to remove for tilting the panel and easily lost while camping. The stainless steel is a nice heavy gauge with a burr-free finish. The parts that mount to the panel required me to drill another hole to fit my Renology Eclipse Monocrystaline panel because I couldn't put them right on the end for my application. I'll have to tilt from the end of the panel. This was a very easy modification - just drilled a third hole between the two already there. I recommend the manufacturer consider drilling a third hole right between the two already there for future runs in order to fit the Renology Eclipse frame. The price seems a little steep, but it's a superior product, so they get 5 stars despite my minor quibbles. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Product. Worth the cost! - Watch AM Solar YouTube video for installation guidance *by S***K on June 8, 2020* I bought this mount kit as it is a complete kit for one panel and I did not have time to make my own.I am glad I did! While they are pricey, they are worth it in my opinion when you think about obtaining suitable material, the labor (metal bending/shaping/drilling), tools, trips to hardware store for the bits and pieces, etc.The items in the kit are stainless steel and are well made. I especially like the design and the pressed in nuts on the clips. Make sure to order the correct size for your panels.I ordered the 40mm ones. My panel frames are a little over 1.5 inches. If not AM Solar panels, you will need to drill holes in your frames for the mounts.All of this is well explained in the AM Solar YouTube video on mounting solar panels. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Super Versatile Mounts - Highly Recommended *by G***K on October 20, 2020* These mounts worked great to mount a solar panel on our boat. The mounting location had a sloping roof line and these mounts adjust perfectly to the angles.
