Almost didn't buy this due to negative reviews!!
Certain negative reviews here on Amazon almost convinced me not to get this book...don't pay attention to them. Let's start with a little review on the definition of "newbie" since it appears that some of us need some brushing up on basic terminology: "A newbie is a newcomer to anything." This is a fantastic introduction for newbies to Airstreaming, and for basic RV'ing in general. I grew up tent camping and backpacking, so I've never done the "trailer thing". Since I'm pushing my Jubilee year (50), and my back is not capable of throwing heavy gear around anymore, my wife and I finally fulfilled a dream and bought a 2013 23D FlyingCloud. I needed something to get me up to speed (quickly!) and this is the perfect book (and it's very inexpensive, too!) You couldn't ask for a better intro. Now I can move on to other more in-depth books if I choose, but I'm so glad I bought this one. Why people who already know how to do all this stuff would even buy a newbie book is a mystery I'll take to my grave. Such inaccurate reviews are a disservice to us newbies, and misleading.

Little to nothing to do with Airstreaming. 99% to do with Camping in general
I just got an Airstream and was excited to learn more about it and how to maintain it etc.. If you are like me, this is not the book for you. This is a beginner's guide to camping and using an R/V or travel trailer. Very misleading I feel and totally ineffectual considering I am already a camper that knows how to hook up a camper and transport a camper as well as all the standard things you should know if you had camped before. This covers the basics and should be retitled "The Newbies guide to R/V camping".

A must have for new Airstreamers
I have just bought my first Airstream, and RV, so I have a lot to learn. This book is exactly what I needed. It has made me comfortable with this big new silver trailer and its many systems. The book does a nice job covering all the things your thinking about and more.Airstream supplies all new owners with a free copy in the product information, appliance warranty bag you get upon purchase.I liked the book so much I quickly bought the authors book The Complete Guide to Airstream Maintenance as well as a subscription to his magazine, Airstream Life. Both books are very well written, fun to read and are spiral bound which will help in the future to use them as reference manuals.

Excellent introduction
I'm looking to buy a small Airstream trailer, and this book really hit the spot for me. Useful, straightforward information. The author understands just how much newbies really don't know, and how much anxiety we feel about the process. He explains the "why" of things, which I find invaluable, and he draws on a long history with Airstreams, their quirks, and the common issues that arise. At the same time, you don't get the sense that he's just a booster for Airstream. There's a list of common terminology, useful checklists, and a great chapter at the end on "Tips, Myths, and Advice." The book is also a good basic introduction to towing and trailer travel in general.

First time airstreamers
My wife and I truly enjoyed this book. Rich touches about everything a newbie would want to know. And we are newbies. We just purchased our first airstream a 2004 31 foot classic we've never even owned a trailer before but have been looking at airstreams for quite a while. Retired this year we are looking forward to traveling our great nation. This book gave us great insight on owning a airstream and things to look for when purchasing. Of course we had it inspected and we can't wait to get it. Hopefully by the end of October. We also purchased Riches other book (The nearly complete guide to airstream maintenance) which I have not read yet but I am looking forward to. Looking forward to meeting other air streamers out there. Dale and Cathy

Excellent coverage. I ordered this and your Maintenance book ...
Excellent coverage. I ordered this and your Maintenance book on the same day that my wife and I bought an Airstream 1990 Excel 1000 32 ft.The two books saved us since the Owner's Manual and Service Manual were not included in the sale.THESE TWO SPIRAL BOUND GUIDES gave us enough comprehensive information to be able to safely take three brief exploratory " shakedown "trips & to feel much more confident in planning our future extended journeys. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKIN THESE AVAILABLE TO US !We are , of course, still searching for the "COMPLETE" factory OWNERS MANUEL AND THE FACTORY REPAIR MANUAL for this " SPECIFIC" Airstream YEAR and MODEL. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated .Steve and Susan Mozara, [email protected]

Basic - but nicely written and illustrated
Really basic, and if you've ever RV traveled in any manner you really don't need it. But, its nicely written, easy to cover in a couple of hours, and will reinforce that you already know everything necessary if you have that basic RVing experience. If you don't have basic RV experience it will fill you in enough to be comfortable. It lacks references that allow readers to research specific topics that interest them - I find references very useful and expect to find them in "guide" type books.

Very helpful for new Airstream Owners
I was very pleased with this book. My husband and I are new travel trailer owners and this guide helped with the basics so that we have a better understanding of all the features on our Airstream Basecamp. Going from a tent trailer to one with heat, water, bathroom etc was a little overwhelming and this broke everything down into small pieces that were easy to absorb and understand. If you are already a seasoned travel trailer owner, this book may be too basic for you, but for us, it was perfect.
