Prior to that, I had used a paper clip to short the header pins, which is a little risky and annoying if you're doing it repeatedly. The cable quality is decent and the length is generous. Do consider using some form of strain relief, if you're wiring this into a case. Leave a bit of slack and then maybe use a cable tie to tightly affix it to something in or on the case. I have no complaints about the brightness of the LED.
