I'm confused and I'm returning the unit. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Before Installing, Read This First! *by T***J on November 16, 2025* This is a nice unit and for under $100 it's a LOT cheaper than digging out a drain stack just to add a toilet in a basement, garage, shed, etc.! There are a few minor short-comings; rating above should be ~4.5 stars overall. For people having problems with pumping/motor issues, we had to reduce the PVC (out) to 1" from 1-1/2" (it's even stated in the online instructions we hunted down) which I thought would be troublesome, but so far it's been working great with daily use of multiple people, toilet, bathroom sink, shower, kitchen sink, dishwasher and washing machine with a seven-plus foot rise into the stack and about twenty foot total of outbound pipe. 1-1/2", 1-1/4" and 1" were all tested; only the 1" Schedule 40 passed for lift and distance so this unit has to be grinding things up rather well as there hasn't been a single clog or slow-down. This project is a basement conversion into a finished one. The grinder is noisy as is expected - it's basically a *garbage disposal* connected to a toilet! We're working on noise reduction later this month as it was installed behind the bathroom in what's now a plumbing closet. When grey water is tended to, you can hear the difference; the unit is much more aggressive/noisy when the toilet opening is used. For people moving clear to grey water, a quieter and simpler direction would be a "condensation pump" depending on how much water needed to be moved and how quickly. 1. When installing the outlet pipe, run vertical first, then horizontal (per the online instructions) to help boost upward flow. Avoid using 90 degree elbows in your PVC anywhere in the lift - 45 degree is stated and I personally tested the difference - 90's fail after a few feet of rise. 2. Even though there are "plugs" in the accessory holes on each side, remove them and replace them with the included seals/clamps if they're not being used -- the plugs can easily leak since it vibrates pretty harshly. 3. Get the rubber accessories WET when attempting to get them to fit onto the macerator and/or plumbing - they're a VERY tight fit. (We had to soak the rubber parts in hot water to make them pliable enough.) You need to cut the ends off of the rubber based on which size pipe you plan to use -- if you're not using an inlet, don't cut off the ends! 4. The included check valve is a bit noisy and cheaply made. Replace it with a normal check valve made for PVC and add a ball valve while doing so to save yourself a LOT of grief if ever the device needs to be disconnected. Add the ball valve as CLOSE to the mascerator as possible (imagine plumbing full of "debris" and the device needed service... as soon as you disconnect the plumbing it's going EVERYWHERE! That's NOT a mess I'd want to clean up!) 5. Finally, be sure to install the macerator on the floor, on level ground, and if you have wood floors add some rubber+felt "movers" as feet to help reduce vibration related noise and ensure the outbound plumbing is secured as the pump turns on and off with some strength and can shake the pipes pretty hard. If using the toilet inlet, try to ensure there's a slight tilt in the 4" pipe where the toilet outlet is just slightly higher than the macerator's inlet - for numerous reasons. If the mascerator is higher than the toilet, it may seem to run for long periods of time as it cannot build pressure and in turn tends to push things back where they came from. NOTE: If the plumbing to/from this unit is up against a wall stud, drywall, etc. ANYWHERE, the drywall will amplify the noise through the walls/floors it's attached to. Our bathroom sink drain was intentionally cut with a 1-1/2" outlet in the wall and not much, if any space around the pipe... the entire wall acted like a SPEAKER for the vibration noise. Cut the hole larger than the pipe; use silicone or similar (that's flexible when dry) or even felt to close the gap if needed.
