Pemmican Bar

This is my first taste of pemmican, so maybe I cannot do this justice. Texture was weird for me and hard to swallow. Flavor on the sour side, but in a fruity tone, not spoiled. We purchased this for emergency food, but not sure how would it hold over time.

Pemmican is a concentrated mix of fat and protein. I use it for a portable quick energy supply when I am working or hiking.I have tried several, including some commercially prepared pemmican bars. Some of them don't taste like traditional pemmican and others seem to contain ingredients and proportions different than their claims would suggest. The Lakeside Pemmican Bar satisfies both requirements for me.The tallow and jerky proportions appear to be in the correct 1:1 proportion by volume (not weight). The list of ingredients are right on the top of the nicely constructed cardboard box the shrink wrapped pemmican is shipped in. Those are Grass-fed beef tallow, grass-fed beef jerky, organic dried cranberries, sea salt, and freshly ground pepper corns. It is obvious when you break one in half and examine it that the claimed ingredients are accurately listed.There are seven Chunky Bar - like pieces. I found one to be sufficient for me for an energy boost. I tend to eat a large breakfast and not enough for lunch because I am too busy working or out on a trail. One Lakeside Pemmican Chunk seems to fill that void for me. Others who eat a lighter breakfast may require two. The texture is soft and chewy and there is a very mild cranberry flavor with a hint of salt.Highly recommended. Will buy again.
