My 7-year old daughter’s says it’s her favorite book!
I was looking for a book with a little more substance for my 7 1/2 year old to read over the summer. I knew she liked dogs and the reviews were great. Love the author too. Anyway, she devoured this book and won’t even let friend’s borrow it because it has become her favorite book. She has since read it again and I’m sure she’ll pick it up again. I also read the book and it has so much charm, the main character has so much heart and vulnerability and curiosity. I can see why she loved it. A must buy for any young girl!

A dog that can smile and a book worth reading
From the very minute I read how Opal explained how she viewed the preacher (her daddy), I was captivated, yet again at the way Kate DiCamillo tells a story. Her words are melodic and meaningful, melancholy and hopeful all wrapped up between the pages of a must read novel. I loved it and read it in one sitting. This is the type of book you can’t put down. I challenge you to pick it up if you somehow missed reading this in your life.

The only story I ever loved the movie version almost as much as the book!
Such a touching story for children and adults. Real life heartache and goodness portrayed with that southern quirkiness that makes the story so magical. The diverse cast of characters, including a dog, each have their unique trials to go through but find hope and clarity when their lives overlap. I whole heartedly recommend this book!

Charming Pet and People Story
An easy read (written for young readers) for any age to enjoy. I loved it and I am 70 plus. It keeps your interest, page after page, with heart warming feelings, yet, a bit of heartache too at times. Wonderful experiences for all age groups included in the book, from small children to the very old. It includes a beloved dog and other animals. One can read it in an afternoon. It is simply a big winner.

One of the best and emotional books
The book is not easy to read in the light of emotions because you live the story together with Opal. Her thoughts, relationships with other characters and her inner world - everything matters. It’s amazing story for the whole family as it carries many important messages and examples for the kids to learn.

Opal, the female protagonist, is one of the most endearing characters I have ever read. I absolutely loved this book and have gone on to read other books written by Kate DiCamillo. This book is wonderful in numerous ways. The bond between Opal and her dog, which she cleverly names Winn-Dixie, is captivating. The friendships that Opal develops with a range of unusual candidates are inspiring. This book has humor, but at the same time offers a young reader invaluable life lessons about: friendship, loyalty, growing pains, family and acceptance. As an English literature major, teacher and writer, I highly recommend this read. It's in the league of classics.

At the same time!
I loved the fact my daughter was able to listen and complete her home assignment at the same time. Not only was she listening and imagining she was able to stop and reflect on what she was listening too and continue answering questions about the book.

Wonderful book for adults and children
You don't have to have a child to read this book. If you do, though, read it together. It is a wonderful book with an uplifting message how everyone has loneliness in them. But, you can get over loneliness and help others get over their loneliness without realize you are creating a web of friendships of people who then become friends with each other.Have a party, invite me. I'll bring the potato salad and juggle.

Lovely, lovely book
I loved this book so much I then bought it for 2 different children. I did ask a friend's child to read it to as I wondered whether I was hankering after times pasts but she, a 10year old Londoner also thought it was great. Highly recommend. Reading this book has led me to buy other DiCamillo books, which have also been very good but asthma was the first I bought I have a soft spot for it.

very nice
This book was very nice and funny with lots of different people in it, but at the end it gets a bit sad but then it gets happier. This book explains that you don't get friends the instant you move to another town, it just takes time and the girl, India Opal has many different friends, adults and kids . The funniest bit of the book is when India Opal finds the dog in the supermarket and names him the name of the supermarket, Winn-Dixie.This book is very nice and I really enjoyed reading it.I hope you have fun reading too.

Reading in the waiting room.
I enjoyed this book. It helped me cope with a family crisis - a health issue. Each chapter stood alone but kept me busy waiting for test results and completed procedures. It gave me a focus and distraction.

Beautiful
This is a beautiful book which I am delighted with. The cover and picture delightful and the old fashioned paper makes this look like a much more expensive book that it actually was. I haven't read it yet (bought after seeing the film) however I know it will look stunning on my bookshelf.
