This was good to read the beginning of this series. Although the story line is interesting the big drawback for me was the descriptive sex. It would be great if that did not distract you from the historical implication of the story line.

Almost comical because of sexiness.
A really strange book because the main characters spent so much time kissing and feeling each other up, even when they were in danger. I doubt that I will read any other books in this series because I found it so difficult to take their smooching and breathing hard seriously.

Fun read!
Love the main characters in this book, and how the author developed them and revealed their secrets as the story progressed. The Mayan culture content was a bit light, but the focus of this book was romance and adventure, which the author most certainly provided! At the end of the book, I was left with a couple of questions regarding details of the plot that I would have liked the author to resolve for me, such as WHY would they have put Isabella's life in jeopardy to steal the contents of her box if she was so needed for their evil plans? But overall, a fun and easy read leaving me anxious to read the next book in the series..

Good Book! Worth the read!
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance novels or mysteries. This is a great weekend read. The characters a well developed and likeable; the plot moves along at a good pace; and there are several twists to the story that you don't see coming. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Disappointing
I was very disappointed. Instead of an archeological adventure with a smart female protagonist, this book is a Harlequin romance-like sappy love story with a naïve and clueless heroine.Dr. Isabella Mumphrey is supposed to be a child-prodigy archaeology professor. Unfortunately, instead of her being smart, strong, and sassy, Isabella is dull and dumb (and I really hate it when the female main character is dumb). She travels alone to a third world country wearing a tank top and no bra (really?). She takes off for the dig site with a guy who merely claims to be her guide, no qestions asked. For a person in a research profession, she is incredibly uninformed, and embarrassingly and insultingly naïve.The plot relies heavily on coincidence. Her guide just happens to be an undercover DEA agent, who just happens to be after drug dealers who just happen to be camping out next to the dig site. One awfully big coincidence. The plot is boring. The author throws many plot ploys that instead of adding interest and intrigue, just muddle the story line. We have the paranormal, ancient civilizations, artifact thieves, drug dealers, spies, madmen, human sacrifices, the rain forest, bats. Yes, I know the book is fiction. But unless the book is classified as Fantasy, I really would like it to be somewhat plausible. And as is expected in Harlequin romance-like books, the two fall madly in love and have unprotected sex after knowing each other for a few days. Yawn. What could have been and should have been a great adventure through the jungle to an ancient ruin was instead trite, predictable, and boring.

Fast-paced romantic mystery
I've enjoyed Paty Jager's westerns and Nez Perce books, but this is my favorite. The quick pace with twists and turns kept me guessing--although I had suspicions. Isabella is a delightful heroine, both naive and worldly at the same time. Tino Kosta is too hunky for Isabella or the feminine readers to resist. I would never want to visit Guatemalan jungles (icky snakes and insects), but I have long enjoyed reading about the Mayans and their culture. This book was such a treat and I look forward to the next in the series!

Silly and not up to Jager Standards
I have read many books by Paty Jager and think she is a good imaginative writer. But this book disappoints with artificiality like none others. I read lots and occasionally read a real clunker. This book is on par with the worst of those I've read. Read some of her other books, but give this one a pass.

Disappointing
I have all of the High Eagle & Hawke books. I loved them for the suspense & adventure in each one. I bought this one expecting the same level of quality writing. What I got was muddled mess of too much running, ill designated characters & not much else but sex. Way too much sex. I don't buy Ms Yager's books for sex, there r plenty of good Romance writers out there if that is what I want to read about. Ordinarily, I would go right on & buy the next book in a series, but not this one.

Ok
First time with this author, but needs improvement this could be a very good series apart from the teenage sex
