UK four CD box set from the British vocalist who was admired by none other than Frank Sinatra himself. In the U.S., Monro is best known as the vocalist of one of the best James Bond themes, 'From Russia with Love'. This set contains 100 of Matt's very finest tracks, a 64 page book written by Michelle Monro, rare photographs and discography. EMI.

Wonderful Matt Monro CD Recordings
Appreciated the quick 3-day delivery of this wonderful and outstanding professionally recorded Matt Monro Multiple CD set with an excellent booklet of its history. My wife immediately played the CD's and loved the texture and depth of Matt's voice and the beautiful sound of the accompanying orchestra. Pricing was fantastic and we are so appreciative of the opportunity to own this valuable treasure of Matt Monro's wonderful interpretation of his hits and love songs that span the last 40 years! Kudos also to those great musicians and writers who gave us so many great classical songs. This is a must have set of CDs for music lovers.

As good as its going to get
This is a remaster of many tracks in the original 2001 collection. If you're a true Matt Monro fan, and why would you even be looking if you're not, then this is a nice add, especially if you have the right playback gear. If you already own the 2001 set then I would say pass, again...unless you own a fairly high-end player, amp and speakers. There is a quality difference on some tracks, but is it demonstratively noticeable, not really. If you do not own the 2001 set (long out of print, by the way) then do get this one from 2011. The '01 mastering was an improvement over the old EMI CD's (circa. mid-90's) on his classic tracks, and this 2011 effort improves on that. Matt Monro had such an appealing voice, plus the arrangements and orchestration make his recordings timeless from a listening standpoint. We lost Matt way too soon. Unfortunately, the EMI acquisition, merger or whatever you want to call it purged out many of the Monro titles from the catalog, and their supply has all but dried up. This set (assuming you can still find it) is about as good as it's going to get if you desire a fine retrospective from a truly iconic singer.

Great CD.
well recorded CD. i did not expect the sound to be such a high standard. i would have given this a 5 star rating. However, due to the poor packaging, the CD case arrived with several cracks, hence the 4 star rating.

The Perfect Voice
Portrait Of My Love, Walk Away and If I Never Sang Another Song represent the unmatched talent of Matt Monro. Matt's singing makes me focus on the words in the song, forgetting all the random thoughts in my life. Frank Sinatra was right - - Matt Monro has "great pipes. "

... you go wrong getting a hundred songs by a great singer for under $20
How can you go wrong getting a hundred songs by a great singer for under $20. The only fault with this cd is there are so many more great recordings that aren't on it. ("Laura" for one) It has all his familiar recordings and dozens of long impossible to find later recordings I never knew he did, such as "What a Wonderful World". I'd rather they had done a separate release of his foreign language recordings (though hearing his take on "Hava Nagila" worth a listen). It's amazing how many recordings he left when you realize his first hit here came in 1961 and he died in 1985. Let's hope they open up the archives and release another boxed set with the ones that were omitted here. Matt Monro may be the best example of how a great singer can still be a success without the singles charts.

"The Singer's Singer"~ultimate vocal treasure!
Back in the great musical sixties there were many singers with wonderful voices, but a commanding voice stood out above the rest and whenever a song like "Born Free", "Portrait Of My Love", "From Russia With Love, "Walk Away" or numerous other classic performances came over the airwaves, it was clear Matt Monro possessed one of the greatest singing voices ever...stunning "The Singer's Singer" Box Set is a must have for anyone who enjoys the finest the world of music has to offer, assembled brilliantly with love by daughter Michele Monro, engrossing essay plus tributes by notables such as Sinatra make for a moving & fascinating read, music lavishly contained in all four discs is simply sublime, making one fall in love all over again with that warm lush voice that is as good as great singing gets. In addition of all the wonderful hits, songs like "If I Never Sing Another Song" or "The Long And Winding Road" show a remarkable artist who could make any song a memorable & magical listening experience! Bravo Matt Monro and RIP

Aber er hatte auch einige eigene Millionenhits wie " Born Free", "From Russia With Love", "Let There Be Love" oder das unvergessene "On Days Like These". Möge ihm diese herausragende Compilation eine ganz neue Hoererschaft erschließen.

Matt Monro remastered by Richard Moore
Apparently this is the best remastering of Monro's output. If so, then I have nothing but gratitude to Mr Moore for his work in helping to preserve this wonderful music in its best form. This is not quite a complete collection but serious omissions are difficult to think of.Listening to some of the songs here it's very difficult to understand why Monro didn't have greater chart success.Apparently songs like the utterly magnificent Born Free barely scraped the charts! How could this be so?
