The description page of the merchandise page is written：(Programming Software & Drivers Required, NOT included in this product)."My reply is as follows and constitutes my feedback for this item ...Point 1 - I supplied my own drivers - I know for a fact Prolific USB to serial devices work; the drivers are built-in to the Linux kernel. Indeed the Prolific chip is recognised and the /dev/ttyUSB0 device is created.Point 2 - I supplied my own programming software - hamlib, grig and chirp are installed and working fine with other radios using similar leads with a Prolific USB to serial chip. On running the above mentioned software packages with this particular lead, the host fails to communicate with the radio at all baud rates despite the chip being recognised.As for lacking basic common sense, I am insulted by that remark; I have been working in and involved with the IT industry for 20-something years. I suspect from the other reviews of this product that mine is not an isolated incident of defective goods. IMHO, this seller has no customer service skills and I stand by my negative feedback.

Well made and promptly delivered

The lead appears to be satisfactory but appeared without a driver disc therefore will not work.nor can I find a driver on the www.useless

Well, purchased this cable to operate my Yaesu FT-897D remotely via computer. Once setting the board rate etc to the same on the radio, windows Serial port setup and the app I was using, this could control and see the current settings of my radio. The app occasionally said it was receiving nothing from the radio but that could have been the app I was using so I’m not going to say that was definitely the cable’s fault. Just one rather big downside.... Transmitting normally with my mic and the PTT switch on the mic occasionally factory resets your radio when you have no PC connected, but the cable still is, it seems.It doesn’t seem to happen when the PC is connected, just sometimes when keying up, the radio clicks off and starts up having factory reset, all settings, all memories, gone just like that....I don’t dare continue to try when connected to the PC in case it does it again.... I have a tuner connected between the radio and the CAT cable, however the tuner offers CAT daisy chaining. Not sure where the issue is or if it does still happen when a PC is connected but I got lucky, but I don’t feel like I want to set everything up again just yet, let alone risk whatever it might be doing inside my radio to cause this to happen.

It got it recognised by the computer (win10) but no variation of serial configuration (baud, stop bits, handshaking) in the device settings, software or radio would make it communicate with the Yaesu FT-897. RS232 diagnostic software shows nothing received when trying to read the config.I purchased an alternative cable from another site, based on the same serial hardware, and that cable worked perfectly first time.I cannot recommend that anybody purchases this device - there are better, trustworthy devices out there. Caveat Emptor!

The software on the CD will not load on Windows 10, Cant get the lead to work with the Yaesu FT818ND,Waste of money, DO NOT BUY as it doesn't work.

Unfortunately, although the product arrived promptly and with a mini-CD, I could not get it to work on two Windows-10 PCs with my FT-817ND. The one PC already also has a valid Prolific driver which works correctly with a serial-USB converter. Tried three different driver variants before returning the product for a full refund.
