Brilliant!
This story is absolutely brilliant and I recommend the read - it definitely captures your attention! The book is about a strange phenomenon which is of course fiction - 'astral projection' but there are some accounts of people claiming to have had this experience which is very intriguing if you look these up.I recommend you read the book before researching anything as this book is best read without prior knowledge of astral projection in my opinion.

Fantastic read
I read this book when I was a teenager and really enjoyed it. I read it again recently and still think it's brilliant! My 13 year old daughter read it also and loved it.

I read this as a young teen and bought it for my daughter - an avid reader. She also enjoyed it (she's 14). Great story, a bit creepy at times - excellent read.

The Kindle version is NOT the original book!
I read the original paperback when it came out in 1981. I thought it was an all-around excellent book, one I would certainly have given 5 stars to. So why am I only giving it 3 stars now? In a moment of nostalgia, I was searching on amazon for books I remembered reading way back when. I saw this was on Kindle now and bought it on impulse. When I started reading, I realized early on that this was not same book I had read before. This has been rewritten. It is basically the same story, but there are some subtle and not so subtle changes. The updates to make it more contemporary -- the existence of cell phones for instance -- are handled well and unobtrusively. There is more description of the island and the ocean and sky that is well-written and also not obtrusive, though I could picture the location perfectly in the original. The main problems I have with it are:1) unnecessary scene additions. These are mainly dialogue-heavy scenes explaining the characters' feelings and actions. The original was perfectly clear and I never puzzled over any of them there.2) unnecessary character change. Helen's mother is turned into a nasty shrew for no discernible reason.3) poor editing. This edition gives off the strong impression that it was the edition initially handed over from the author to an editor. The editor worked his/her magic, and the original version was published. I wish they had left it at that. With the small exception of updating for the mention of cell phones, nothing in this edition is better than the original. Reading it made me long for a good editor.4) false advertising. As far as I am concerned, this is the most annoying and deceptive feature. I went back over the entire page for the Kindle edition. If there is anything there indicating that this edition has been changed from the original, it is so subtle that I missed it. I want to know the truth when I purchase something from amazon. In this case, I suspect it is the publisher that is being deceptive. Shame on them. I'm going to be far more wary of ordering anything old that has just turned up on Kindle from now on.I do recommend this book for its excellent plot, writing, and characters. But you will be far better off purchasing a used paperback edition of the original work.

A teen classic
Long before "teen suspense thrillers" became its own genre, there was Lois Duncan. Many of Lois Duncan's novels, such as "I Know What You Did Last Summer", have been made into movies. "Stranger with My Face" is no exception; it was made into a movie by Lifetime in the 1990s. "Stranger with My Face" earned a lot of awards when it was released, but it is currently lesser-known than her works that were turned into films in the past fifteen years or so.High schooler Laurie Stratton is having the best summer of her young life -- until her popular boyfriend accuses her of seeing her out on a night she is supposedly home sick. She begins to hear of more of these sightings until she sees one for herself -- the astral projection of her twin, a twin she never knew she had. Her life begins to unravel as she tries to simultaneously learn more about her unknown sister, while trying to protect herself against accidents happening in her life.Fans of thrillers will enjoy this book.

Best summer read
This book is a great book to ride by the pool, or the beach. It is a great young adult book and will leave you in aw. It will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat. Don’t be startled if people look at the book you are reading and have a copy the next day!

My Fave
I grew up reading Lois Ducan's book as a teen. She was by far my favorite author. Stranger With My Fave was the first book I read of hers and I remember not being able to sleep that night.. I was terrified!! Reading it now as an adult I find the book still so enjoyable. This is definitely one of her BEST!!

Privative subject in interesting context
Great book for girl who is pre-teen or teen. Interesting subject is very provocative for girls that age. All the women in my family read this as teens too.

My favorite book ever
This book is my favorite book ever written. I read it in junior high during a summer reading program and completely fell in love with the subject matter. The characters were wonderful and the story kept me very interested. I've probably read this about 150 times in my life. Finally had to buy it. I have the entire first chapter, pretty much, memorized. Love the way it starts out, love the astral projection story line, and it kept me very interested throughout.

THRILLED!
I am thrilled! As a teen, this was one of my favorite books. I couldn't put it down and now I feel happy to be able to give a copy to my teen aged daughter. She has started reading her copy and so far she is immersed. The copy was used but in very good condition. The arrival was prompt.

Scary and interesting - Great read for older teens
I read this book as a teenager and it scared the heck out of me. I ran across it one day while browsing kindle books and since I was about to take a long plane ride, I bought it with several others for the trip. As an adult, I found this book about losing your body during astral travel to be just as terrifying and intriguing as it was many years ago.

I am in love with this book
I first read Stranger With My Face when I was 13, which was 15 years ago. Of all the books I've ever read, this stayed with me very strongly- I felt almost haunted by it. I spent many years trying to find the book again because I had forgot the title, and by luck I just recently located it. It was even more powerful than I remembered. This is the first time I've ever felt compelled to write a review- that's how much it moved me. The book should not be considered only for teens. It is a beautiful and intriguing story for any age. I was swept away by the stormy island setting, and I am utterly in love with Jeff- cool, tough, brave and scarred.

Unexpected
This book is definitely a five-star book! The characters are so real that astral projection becomes believable and the connection the reader has becomes stronger as the plot unfolds. Part romance, part thriller, and part paranormal, this story will be enjoyed by both young and older adults. Impossible to put down once I started.

Well-written story of teen angst and love mixed with mysticism
This was my very favorite book when I was a YA, and when Lois Duncan passed away I picked up a copy to read again. It still holds up decades later!

I read this book originally as a pre-teen, and just read it again as an adult. A great thriller with some paranormal flavor. Duncan is a great writer.
