Excellent work by two knowledgeable authors, together summing up over one hundred years of study in these matters, enhanced by excellent illustrations. Highly recommended to anyone interested on the subject, or just interested in 'exotic' (less common) Air Forces.

Great work well illustrated perfect for modellers like me who like something different to make.Lots of interesting schemes to tackle other than the usual German,British,American etc colours. Very refreshing and highly recommended.

Swedish Fighter Colours 1925 - 1954: Piston Engined (White Series (Rainbow)) で第二次大戦中に中立国のスウェーデンが戦闘機の調達に苦労した状況も各戦闘機の説明に織り込まれているのですが、同じ中立国でもポルトガルの戦闘機調達状況を知るのに本書が興味深いと思います。　本自体は1919年のスパッドS.7C1から1956年のリパブリックF-57Dサンダーボルト（米空軍創設に伴い従来のP-47DからF-47D）までポルトガルが調達した戦闘機を調達の経緯と運用状況を記した文章と塗装マーキング要領の文章、カラーイラスト集で説明したものです（勿論本文にはモノクロ写真多数が添えられています）。　本来有力な中立国（トルコ、ルーマニア）には枢軸国、連合軍の両方が自分たちの同盟に引き入れようと関心を引くため兵器の供給が行われるのですが、ポルトガルは古くからの親英国であり、更に領土のアゾレス諸島がドイツに渡るとUボートの補給基地等に利用される恐れがあり、英国が主な供給国になりますが、英国も緒戦は自国防衛の為に最新機を供給することができず、供給された機体はグロスターグラディエター、カーティス　モホーク（米国のP-36相当機の英国呼称）がポルトガルの主力戦闘機になります。　状況が変わるのは北アフリカで連合軍の増強に向かう米軍機ロッキードP-38ライトニング、ベルP-39エアラコブラ（特にP-39の場合は航続距離が短いので北アフリカ到達が不可能な場合は親英国故着陸が認められました）、更に英国で旧式化したホーカーハリケーンやスピットファイアも供給されてポルトガル戦闘機増勢が行われたことがわかります。 Swedish Fighter Colours 1925 - 1954: Piston Engined (White Series (Rainbow))
