Do these guys ever stop?
After all these years, you would think that us Primal Fear fans would start to complain about the fact that the band's sound has had so little development in the past fifteen years. But nope, this is not the case as they return with the mighty Rulebreaker.Okay, I won't deny it. I love the fact that the band keep to one specific sound, especially one that they do so well. Rulebreaker is the same hard hitting old school heavy metal that you'd expect from the German group. This time though, they hit the nail on the head in terms of sound and catchiness.I honestly find it hard to complain when I hear songs like Angels of Mercy, Rulebreaker and In Metal We Trust fire up. The sound of the guitars and powerful rhythm section is just Godly. Each instrument blends wonderfully into each other creating this juicy heavy metal that sound that not a lot of bands could pull off.In terms of musicianship, well its really out the ball park on this one. Scheepers sings his heart out (as he always does) and the rest of band pound the living hell out of their instruments. They inject so much energy into these songs, songs which if it were any other band would be considered bland and boring. But the sheer intensity provided by these musicians completely makes up for a lack of original ideas. In a way you could say that we've heard it all before, it is very true. But that does not mean it is a bad thing. As I said earlier, the energy is through the roof and the sound is deliciously heavy. I really can't find anything to complain about Rulebreaker. It is a solid, well produced monster that I can't stop listening to.

Superb metal album - thank you Primal Fear!
As there aren't many reviews at time of writing, I just have to add my 5 stars to this brilliant album. For me it's what a great metal album is all about and it's got everything - fabulous guitars and solos, catchy choruses, a ten minute epic (We Walk Without Fear) and even a great ballad (The Sky is Burning). If you like Primal Fear's previous offerings then buy this straight away - it's their best album yet and you won't be disappointed! Turn it up to 11 and enjoy!

Rulebreakers
Great album with very catchy songs, heavy and melodic, very enjoyable.I am not a big fan of power metal at these days, but Primal Fear is a band that always worth to check out and i i like it.Scheepers performance is outstanding as usual, sound very similar to Juads Priest not only vocals but also the riffs. Most of the songs are great here, top are: 'The End is Near', 'Constant Heart', 'Angels of Mercy' and 'We Walk without Fear'.There aren't boring moments here, any heavy metal fan can enjoy it, highly recommended.

Rulebreaker?
Ironically an album that breaks no rules. This like most Primal Fear records doesn't deviate from the band's set formula, but that doesn't bother me. It is a winning formula. Excellent vocals from Mr Halford (sorry I mean Scheepers ;) ), a three guitar attack laying down the leads on every song, Mr Sinner on backing vocals and bass is prominent and excellent drumming from the new guy, Mr Jovino formerly of UDO. This album has the feel of a traditional heavy metal record rather than of a speed/power record but is not a detriment to the album. Each song is riff-heavy, catchy and awesome. So my summary comment for this album is if you love good quality classic heavy metal, you will love this. If you are looking for a band that changes their sound every album and fails to write memorable songs then Primal Fear is not the band for you. Go check out Dream Theater! :D

Old School Metal - Modern Production
If you like old school metal then you'll most likely enjoy this album - I certainly did. Thrashing guitars, great riffs and screaming vocals.But. Why not five stars?Simple really. Judas Priest. There is no secret that Primal Fear is born out of Judas Priest and in fact the singer just failed to get the job when Rob Halford left them. Because of that you can hear the influence of JP all the way through this album. I think you can also catch a bit of Accept as well but then given the style of music this is probably more chance than anything else. Anyway, fact is that Primal Fear are very much in the Judas Priest mould and that isn't a bad thing if you like proper heavy metal. The downside is of course that you tend to compare and that's what I've done here - perhaps unfairly. And it does work. Rulebreaker is a storming album but, the shadow of JP casts a long one and the fact is Judas Priest wrote the book and invented the genre. They have that little sprinkling of magic dust that sets them just a bit ahead of the rest hence their longevity. Bands such as Primal Fear whilst sounding similar don't quite match the all out sound and magnificence of the mighty Priest. But, don't get me wrong. Where Primal Fear do win is that they are more like the sounds of mid 80's to mid 90's - a glorious time in metal. This album of course benefits from top class modern production as well so definitely top tier stuff.Anyway, bottom line is that if you like the Priest, Accept and early Iron Maiden, odds are you will enjoy this too.

Simply put...It rules!
Yet another example of true playing and song writing ability. As hard as Delivering the Black was to follow they succeeded as all PF fans knew they would. Like many others I was truly bummed to hear drummer Randy Black would not be a part of it, (RB has left the band) but I've got to say, putting that album on for the first time and listening to it the whole way through was proof enough that they really know there stuff!
