Sturdy, simple inexensive pH and moisture meter. Requires no batteries, simply insert into the soil near the plant base and read the meter once or twice a week - then you can top up the water levels as required. To measure pH, collect some soil from 50 mm below the surface and remove stones and other debris. Add water to create a mud then insert the probe 100mm into the sample and take the reading after about a minute.
