like the one for AC units
PROBLEM WITH TAPE. This does work, however, you need to replace the tape. I spent hours on hours trying to figure out why it was working only intermittenly. The problem is with the clear tape that sticks to the IR of the device you are trying to control. It can get white or black tacky. This causes degrade in the IR signal. This device has constant intermittent issues. Since I have done the work around below, I have had no issues. I am a little surprised the manufacturer did not catch the problem. I bought 3 and all 3 units had issues in different areas. But the work around below will fix.Problem: Double sided tape degrades signal performance to receiver.1. Remove the manufacturer tape, completely. It will take 5 or 10 mins to rub off or if you can find a chemical, may be faster.2. Buy aluminium foil tape, like the one for AC units. This has a great reflective quality. Buy only the single side (not double side).3. Tape over the IR blaster (not in between like the manufacture method). This ensures that there are no in between interference.4. OPTIONAL: The foil wrap can be eye sore, depending how you did it and if the device is visible. You can use black duct tape to cover over the aluminum foil tape. It will be less of an eye sore.

Last fall I installed an electric fireplace, surrounded by a manufactured stone wall, mantle etc. Now no entertainment center taking up space in the living room. I moved video equipment into a closet in next room. Installed this device so Blue ray, DVR, surround sound, etc are controlled from living room while being hidden in a closet in another room. The only thing visible is a very small sensor on the bottom of the wall mounted TV. As can be seen in the close up picture. (sensor is circled) Install and setup took about 25 minutes, including fishing the sensor cable through the wall, mounting the cluster box and setting the IR sensors on the correct spot on the video and audio equipment. Apologies for the picture quality. Also fire place and wall mount were picked up on amazon as well.

Distance is an issue...
Distance is a real issue for this unit. You will be in good shape if you plan on using the remote within five feet of the receiving side of the transmitter. It works well within the five foot range but I get no response outside of this radius. I'd suggest spending the money on a better unit if distance is a factor.

This unit was the 2nd most expensive on Amazon but is not worth it at all. The IR maxes out at 15' and I have had 2 separate occasions where it failed to work. I had to unplug it and pull all cables out of the control box and reinstall them to get it to work again. Also, the IR extender has to be placed in such a way that the large oval face is exposed with the cable coming off the left or right (not out the back as it should), looking 2nd rate Very frustrating as I work with these types of product daily w/ no issues! This was an install at the inlaws and that is not the result I wanted! Also, I can't recall the "Dual Fire" printed on the box (not the same as the image I ordered) so beware.

Works great!
Using the DurFire IR repeater with my Harmony remote to control my Visio TV, Denon Receiver, HP IR receiver for PC, and uVerse (I think Motorola) DVR, and Philips Blu-ray player.

So far it seems to be working great and will report if problems occur
I bought this to connect directly to the "remote-in" jack on my Yamaha A/V receiver. I'm not using the transmitting diodes, instead I bought a 10 foot long 1/8" mono male-to-male cable with 3.5mm jacks and plugged the DuaFire repeater directly into the Yamaha. Success!Yamaha doesn't document their remote-in/remote-out system very well. It runs on mono connections, which means external IR receivers need to be externally powered. Now I'm finally be able to control my A/V receiver with the cabinet doors closed. I only needed to repeat and control one device, but for the price, I figured that I would have plenty of room for future expansion. So far it seems to be working great and will report if problems occur. The max range for I/R eye seems to be around the 24 to 25 foot mark.

What I can say is that the number of support it provides in the home system is unbelievable. My kid was playing with all the accessories and giving me headache, and I was always afraid that he would hurt himself. Now, with this IR repeater i am quiet relieved he won't mess up with the electrical wires. And the remote control makes my job easier as I do not need to keep on nagging it for the service.

but after getting the rack this became a marginal solution at best and is frustrating to use
I had really high hopes for this remote extender but it does not work as I expected. I have a television in one room and all my electronics inside a rack in a closet several rooms away. I have been using a RF remote extender with mixed results, but after getting the rack this became a marginal solution at best and is frustrating to use. So the DuaFire was my attempt to hard wire the system and make it more dependable. The fatal flaw of the system is that the IR receiver would not pick up a signal from further than 5 or 6 feet away. The manual suggests to try USB power if this happens, which isn't easy as they only provide an AC adapter. I did manage to find the right parts though at home and no luck with either power source option giving the same 5 to 6 foot range. That kind of defeats the purpose of a remote control extender and is worthless for me as my couch is much further than this from my TV (where the receiver was to be mounted). If you are very close to the receiver the other aspects of the system do seem to work, so if they ever fix the receiver this could be a good system.
