For the price these are awesome👍
For the price these are a solid 5 stars. If they were 50 bucks each, Id still give them at least 3 or 4 stars!I carve wood for a living, and rasps are my most used hand tools. I have a wall full of them of all different kinds from cheap to hand stitched French ones.So how do they cut? Not bad at all, especially for the price! The teeth are very consistant. None of those couple teeth just a bit higher than the rest. If you are familiar with the Dragon rasps, they are pretty much exactly the same as their coarse ones. They are also the same shape. The 8 "one is pretty much identical to the small Dragon rasp in size and shape. To compare to the fabled Nicholson 49 &50 they are wider, thinner, pointier, bit stiffer. They are as about aggressive as the older USA made 50 and leave a little nicer of a finish. If a storage case is important, the ones they come with are OK. I doubt Ill ever use them though.I would definately call them a second cut, meaning if you are planning on hogging off a lot of material, its gonna take a while using just this, so get yourself one of those $12 Nicholsons with the big ugly teeth to start with, and finish with these guys. You'll be ready for 120 sanding in hardwoods. There are a few things that would cause me to knock off a star if they were more expensive, but for the price I accept it.The handles are rubbery type plastic. I like a smoother wooden handle, and one day when I have nothing better to do, I'll probably make wooden ones. On the plus side they are on there solid and strait. They clog a bit. I've used them on hard maple, cherry, and walnut for a couple hours and tried them on white pine bit just a little. Keep a good stiff nylon brush handy and a couple swipes now and then and you'll be back in business. I have noticed that the clogging is diminishing a bit the more I use them. While these will will not replace anything for me, they have their place. They are great if you teach or do demonstrations where something can easily get lost, broken, or stolen. I Got them for my daughters and step sons so they dont have to wait for someone to get done with a rasp for them to use it and I dont worry about them dropping mine.Knowing what I know about these, I would not hesitate to buy them again!I am attaching a couple photos for comparison to other rasps in size and tooth pattern.Left to right with rasps pointing towards you Nicholson "Woodcraft", Nicholson 49, The 8" rasp being reviewed, Dragon rasp coarse, Auriou #10 grain, Dragon rasp fine, bastard file.

Good Quality Wood Rasps
In spite of the gaudy color, these wood rasps work quite well. The "teeth" are a bit smaller than some rasps I've used but they are aggressive enough to remove material with little effort, although to be fair, I've only used them on soft woods so far. The flat & curved sides on each rasp are very useful and the 3 different sizes are handy for different applications. I especially like the handles. They seem to be well attached and have comfortable, secure grips. Highly recommended.

Think about why it is plated. A file? Plated?
The files are getting dull after a few tasks. I dropped one on concrete and it bent. That was not what I expected from a file. I put a block over it and hammered it back into shape. I thought it was unusual that they are gold. It must be plated to hide the mild steel.

Great rasps for the price.
I am an inexperienced woodworker. I do not know what makes a good rasp. I have a number of old rasps but they either don't do anything or leave giant grooves in the wood. I thought I would try these based on the reviews I've seen. I'm amazed at how quickly these remove wood but also how fine off a cut they take. This was a great purchase. I think you will like them as well. Just know they will not hog off the wood, they are a fine cut.Sometime I will try one of those $100+ hand-stitched rasps, at least I will have had something to compare to now.

Held Up Nicely After Use
I used these for a project and at first I was sceptical that the gold coloring would fade, but they held up nicely and still look brand new after intensive use. The individual bags are nice to store them, but I wish they connected somehow so i could carry them together. Besides that, the rasps themselves work great and are comfortable to use.

This 3 set was all that I needed for this job. Snd maybe enough for occasion use around the house!!
Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I used it to make a walking stick out off a broken shovel handle.. files removed excess material with ease and precision.. I did get to use all 3 and found them to be comfortable and still very sharp

They are wood files, and they are tough
These are rough files, used for removing chunks of material. I really don't suggest that they be used for detail work.Personally, I used them to clean up the edges of some finger joints, then I sanded them further with regular sand paper. I did the initial cuts using a table saw, so these were great for removing the lines that show up when you make cuts like that.I suspect these won't last a lifetime, but at this price, they solved an immediate need I had. I recommend them for hobbyists and amateurs.

They work
I think these rasps are nicely made and comfortable to use. I've only used the 6" rasp thus far and it worked very well for what I needed to do. I was pleasantly surprised that each rasp has it's own sheath for protection, I like that very much. Though I cannot speak to longevity, for me, these were money well spent. Since I'm not doing rasp work all day, or even at all "some" of the time, for the price, I don't know how one could do better than these as the tool of choice. I'd buy these again.
