Conical bore with wooden block Review: exquisite toned wooden fipple, low D whistle....beautiful, haunting sound....easy to play! - Shaw low D whistle worth every penny. Its tone is exquisite, deep and mellow, more akin to the sound of my silver flute...it has a very beautiful, rich low range..upper range plays well and breathy and flute-like....At 23 inches approx.. in length be prepared for a little stretch..which is comfortable enough once one gets used to the distance. Also it obviously takes more breath than a high D whisltle or any others in a higher range with smaller bore. I like wooden fipple whistles which is why I chose this and the fact it is a hand made whistle...worth paying that bit extra for.. although the seller I purchased from was the cheapest by far anywhere for a new Shaw low D. When I say 'easy to play' it is for anyone that plays a whistle or flute already and the notes are clear and the tuning is spot on.It is hard to play this whislte badly as it is that well made but it WILL take practice to get used to a larger whistle if you are not used to one! Love this and would not hesitate to buy more!
