A fascinating compilation of unearthed gems from one of electronic music’s earliest innovators. Spanning nearly two decades from 1968-1985 the 16-track album celebrates Ciani’s formative years as a musician as it showcases her early synth compositions alongside her cutting edge commercial work for such companies as Atari, PBS, Ballys and Coca-cola.

NOT "the American Delia Derbyshire"
It's hard to think of a better example of lazy journalism. Suzanne operated in an entirely different way to Delia, using the Buchla synthesizer, different compositional techniques and in different media. The music is sophisticated, warm and accessible. No small achievement in any context. Many thanks to Finders Keepers for this release. I hope it wasn't them who came up with that appalling comparison. Both artists deserve so much more appropriate promotion.Highest possible recommendation.

Only 35 minutes long!!!
Disappointing amount of content for a medium capable of 80 minutes - so in this sense not good value for money at all and a waste of plastic in my opinion (in an age where, as consumers, it is becoming increasingly harder to justify burning CDs when content is downloadable - hopefully as more content becomes available to download as WAV this should be less of an issue) - 1 star is missing because of this factor. That aside this is incredible music that needs to be heard and respected by more listeners.

Very influential
You can really hear where Steve Miller got his synthesizer sound for "Fly Like An Eagle." Clearly, someone turned him on to Suzanne's work, and that's obvious on this CD. Plus, she used a Buchla instead of a Moog, which everyone was using at the time. Very interesting work.

The Delia Derbyshire of the Atari Generation (Honestly!)
Excluding an extremely limited edition cassette only release via their website, this is the first release in a creative archive based relationship between Finders Keepers Records and Grammy nominated American/Italian composer Suzanne Ciani. During the 70s and 80s Ciani was a ground-breaking and influential musician in the field of synthetic and computerised sound and was more or less a latter day US equivalent of the BBC Radiophonic Workshop's Delia Derbyshire. Consisting of jingles produced for companies such as Atari & Coca Cola and experimental hypnotic soundscapes from the 70s and 80s there is, despite the overall electronic and synthesized sound, a heart to much of the music here. Clocking in (at an all too brief) 34 minutes and featuring liner notes on all of the tracks by Ciani, this is another exemplary release by Finders Keepers Records. Recommended.**Just to answer another reviewer, I don't know if Finders Keepers coined the term 'The Delia Derbyshire of the Atari Generation', but they certainly use it on their website and to quote Andy Votel from a Bandcamp profile of Finders Keepers "Rechristened ‘The Delia Derbyshire of the Atari Generation’, Finders Keepers have become guardians of Suzanne’s sacred vault"

Not your normal Ciani!
I'm not usually surprised by music I buy, especially when it's an artist I'm familiar with and enjoy. Not this time. With Suzanne Ciani, it's always been a given that her piano music would be fantastic, beautiful and thoroughly enjoyable. I didn't even read the synopsis about the CD. I simply purchased it on her name alone which has always been good enough. Again, not this time. This CD has no piano music. It is all synthesizer and electronic. It's mostly a collection of sonic clips. Nine of the 16 tracks are less than 60 seconds. Several are less than 30 seconds and a couple less than 10 seconds. The longest piece is just over 9 minutes of almost mono-tone electronic annoyance. This CD is for those into electronic synthesized sounds, not music. I guess if you're stoned it might be enjoyable. Otherwise I'd definitely skip this offering from Suzanne Ciani. Such a disappointment.
