Product Description The definitive 4-disc collection of Police recordings from 1978 to 1983 including Every Breath You Take; Roxanne; Wrapped Around Your Finger; Murder By Numbers; King of Pain; I Burn for You; Invisible Sun; Driven to Tears (live), and more. 78 tracks total. .co.uk "This is it: Everything the Police released", boasts the notes in the 66-page booklet are included with this box set. Obsessive fans have already written to rock magazines indignantly pointing out the omission of this or that obscurity but everyone else will find that these four discs include all the Police they'd ever want to own. The first two discs include all of Outlandos d'Amour, Reggatta de Blanc and Zenyatta Mondatta in their original order, interspersed with live rarities and singles B-sides. Discs three and four are more satisfying, including the band's well-crafted studio high points, Ghost in the Machine and Synchronicity, plus more outtakes and live tunes. The set ends with "Don't Stand So Close to Me 86", a dismal remake of the early favourite. By this point, the musicians' egos were running rampant and they were barely speaking. If anyone wonders why the group called it quits so abruptly, this tune makes it clear that the split was smart and timely. --Jim De Rogatis

Message received!
A fantastic product! I have all the albums on vinyl and a greatest hits compilation on cd, so this was a great way to get the whole lot cheaply and in an interesting package. Already ripped to my iPod and playing constantly in the car! Thoroughly recommended and an arresting recommendation!

Lovely book but...
A shame that the discs tracklisting doesn't respect the order in the original albums. Also, there are lots of typos.

An excellent for adventurous listeners!
If all you're interested in is the dozen or so songs that were huge hits and get played regularly on MTV Classic, radio, etc, then this set isn't for you. You're better off buying one of those one or two CD compilations, which will probably be cheaper and will accommodate your lack of curiosity about this band's fine music just fine. For the rest of us, this is very nearly everything they ever recorded. Contrary to the set's title, there are a few tracks missing, notably an alternate version of De Doo Doo Doo De Dah Dah Dah that was recorded in 86 (same as the forgettable re-recording of Don't Stand So Close To Me that closes disc four of this set), and one or two live tracks. But everything from their first single (recorded with original guitarist Henri Padovani) through all five albums, as well as all the unique songs that only appeared on the single B-sides are here. This set really demonstrates how great this band is. They are one of the very few bands in the history of rock music who walked away at the right time. Don't argue with me about why Synchronicity was the last album, it's not important who decided to pull the plug on the band, or why or whatever. My point is, there's no contractual obligation records in their catalog. There's nothing analogous to ELP's Love Beach or The Who's Face Dances or any other half hearted records that tend to be viewed as embarrassments by the fans and sometimes even the bands themselves.Yeah, there's a couple songs here that aren't very good. Mother is probably the most unlistenable song here, largely due to Andy Summers' shrieking vocal (though in the context of the lyrics, the vocal does make sense, and apparently the "Freudian" content of the lyrics is said to have been meant as a balance against the "Jungian" approach of Sting's lyrics elsewhere on the Synchronicity album). And Behind My Camel (a Grammy winning instrumental) goes on for too long with the same idea repeated continuously (the idea itself isn't bad, it's just the track should have been about a minute shorter). But the band's albums were amazingly consistent, and each contains songs that well worth listening to, even beyond the familiar radio hits. Just one example is Omegaman, a song written by Andy Summers, which appears on side two of Ghost In The Machine. It's a great song, with a great chorus, and minimalist guitar solo. Reportedly, A&M wanted to release this song as a single, but Sting (who only sang on it under duress) unilaterally vetoed any such release, so it remains an obscure album track known only to those who look beyond the singles. And most of the B sides are excellent, too. You could almost make up a sixth album just by putting together the B-sides, along with the tracks that appeared the Brimstone And Treacle soundtrack. As mentioned earlier, The Police were an astoundingly consistent band, and anyone who wants to take the time to listen to this set will be warmly rewarded with lots of great musical treats

The Complete Songs", sondern "The Complete Recordings". Einige der Lieder, die gespielt werden, seien genannt: "Roxanne", "Message In A Bottle", "Walking On The Moon", "Spirits In The Material World" und "Tea In The Sahara".
