I thought my ginger cat was bad! Monkie soung like a monkey alot so hence ...
I got a stray maine coon a month and a few weeks after my bengal went into kidney failure. And here comes another stray. I spent wks looking for owner but finally had to get fixed. Spraying in house. I have 2 other male cats who were also grieving. So taking in Mookie Monkie Bear was a chore. Maine coons are a handful and mine almost never shuts up. I thought my ginger cat was bad! Monkie soung like a monkey alot so hence the name. Ooo ooo ooo. He is strong as an ox and very strong willed. I was told a yr old. He already is about 12 lbs. No big feet like my himi! But weighs as much as him.And they grow for 4 yrs. This one does not understand no. He does fetch and dumps his water bowls no matter what. He also drinks oit of the toilets so if u have to go you have to wait. Not sure also about aggression play sometimes. He hates beinging brushed or mats trimmed! Also when I took him to be fixed he tore hole inmy 30$ carrier and got out. He also hates my husbands friend Bill. And runs fromhim. Beliieve me I dont blame him. Really consider whether or not to get one. I am 50 and not sure how I will handle him in a few yrs. 1lb a month is what I have read and been told for 4 urs. In spurts. 12 now x 3 more urs yeesh!!!!!!!.

Cattery: We give this to all our kitten buyers
We breed, show and own Maine Coons for nearly a decade and have given several books to our new kitten owners over the years. We now give this book. I like it as a good basic cat book that also has Maine Coon information. My goal in giving any information is to make my customers better cat owners and understand the breed. I could give a more technical book, but really wanted something I thought would be accessible to most. If you are looking for a very involved book about cats and EVERYTHING you could want to know, this isn't it. However, if you want the basics, this does a nice job.

A "Must" for Maine Coon owners!
I just recently became the proud mommy of a Maine Coon kitten. I have been reading everything I can get my hands on to understand the breed well, and have found a lot of fluff out there and conflicting information. This is the definitive Maine Coon Owner's Manual! The information in this book is complete, detailed, and fascinating! One thing you should bear in mind is that this book was written several years ago (in the 1990s I believe), so some of the references to prices and the state of the internet, etc. are a little dated. This is not a problem, really, but if you think it refers to today, you might be disappointed when you find out that prices of everything are much higher nowadays.Thank you Carol Himsel Daly for writing this great book.

Main Coon Cat
Our family resides with a Main Coon and I found this book very interesting and helpful. I had questions about behavior and health information. It gave me all the information I needed and more, I found it a fun read so many of the things that were talked about our cat has reacted just as the author said the Main Coon would react. Many helpful suggestions helped make our cat and family live comfortably together with better understanding of what the cat's needs are and how he will react to different situations and what to expect when company comes to visit.

Poor Quality in Black & White
Looks as if this was someone's slap-dash high school project. Information is very general - and not helpful. Nothing you can't find elsewhere or on Google

Personalized Greeting Card of a Cat Book
"Maine Coon Cats" is one of a series of cat books published by Barron's. It has been 'personalized' by inserting the breed name 'Maine Coon' into the title and various other places in the text. Most of text is about cats in general, but all of the book's photographs display big, fuzzy Maine Coons. And there are some specifics about this very special breed - the cost of a show kitten vs. 'just a pet', a short history of the breed, etc. We own a small Maine Coon cattery ('JustThisOnce' Cattery) with five current residents (if you don't count the humans). For a more specific book on this native American breed, I'd recommend "This is the Maine Coon Cat" by Sharyn P. Bass. The photographs are mainly black and white (and grainy), but the text is much more specific to Coonies, especially if you plan to show. I learned from Bass's book that our Maine Coons aren't unique in the way they scoop water out of their dish with a big, hairy paw and then drink it. Evidently, this is one of the breed traits that got Maine Coons mistaken for raccoons in the first place!I don't want to turn you away from Barron's "Maine Coon Cats - A Complete Owners Manual". It contains very good generic information about raising cats, and the photographs are really lovely. It just has that 'mass produced' feel about it.

Maine Coon
Arrived fairly quickly after ordering. This book has given us a few pointers and not just for Maine Coon cats but answered a few puzzling things we have about our other cats...Handy to have around when you are buying a Maine Coon Kitten.
