Original Album Series

You really will not go wrong at this price point. Listened to Tull for years but with todays bad vinyl presses and huge prices I was so glad to find these excellent albums at a very good price. As one who sort of stopped at the early albums I am taking delight in listening to albums that I never purchased and I am suprised bu the sound quality and deiversity of the band.

Although I already had 4 of the 5 albums covered by this box-set, I was finding it difficult to track down a reasonably priced CD copy of the 1980 release 'A' and so I decided to buy this clever package. 1977's lovely, acoustically-flavoured 'Songs From The Wood' is probably the best LP of the 5 although 'Heavy Horses' (1978) definitely runs it close whilst 'Broadsword And The Beast' (1982) is very appealing as well with Tull embracing a more 'electronic rock' feel. Definitely a good purchase for fans of folk rock.

Although the first three albums in this set definitely have a pastoral feel to them, that is mixed with Tull’s own interpretation of prog-rock & to great effect, but this does mean there are no songs with Anderson alone in the studio with just his acoustic guitar for company, ala Nick Drake. The other two records are the controversial synthesizer albums. Jethro Tull were always know for their musical innovation, so it stands to reason that they would embrace the electric sound of the 1980’s. The synths on “Stormwatch” are quite subtle & give an extra depth to the music, but the keyboards on “The Broadsword..” are completely over the top, but still think it works with the style of the record & of course this is Jethro Tull, a band not know to do thing by half measure. Any band or singer who release a lot of albums will usual have a purple patch, where most of there records are really strong, but then the quality inevitably dips, this for me comes for Tull after “Heavy Horses”, (there is an argument for “Crest of a Knave” was a return to form) but still the other three album are quite good & makes this boxset worth getting.

So many great tracks

A great way to buy some early Jethro Tull albums (late 1970's to early 1980's). Always a risk of being disappointed when realising your music gods were rather more mortal than you remembered them being but this is not the case here as these albums have stood the test of time. The CDs come in minimal packaging (but then all 5 CDs fit in the space of little more than one jewel case) and in the days of the internet there isn't the same need for copious liner notes etc. Sensible pricing, good quality, great songs - what's not to like?

These albums showcase the great range of musical genre that Jethro Till have mastered. Personally I still rate "Songs From The Wood" as one of the best albums of all time, but the others are also pretty good. A wonderful collection at a fantastically low price.

Great value to get some much loved old albums and try a few that I missed at the time. The miniature cardboard sleeves are a nice touch and the sound quality is very good. Obviously, for this price you don’t get lyric sheets and other internal album artwork, but most of that is discoverable on the internet if you want to see it. Only downside is the slightly worrying and inescapable fact that these originals are nearly 40 years old and I can remember them like it was yesterday.

Great cds in this box set

Les 1 ers albums de Cali. Sans les lives. Mais j'aime beaucoup. Et pour le prix, imbattable. ça peut faire un cadeau sympa!

Wer sie nicht schon längst in seiner Sammlung hat sollte hier zuschlagen. Fünf große Alben aus einer Zeit in der noch deutlich mehr gute Musik gemacht wurde als heutzutage wo häufig Video-Performance wichtiger ist als die eigentliche Musik. Der günstige Preis ist ein zusätzliches Kaufargument. Besitze diese Alben selbst schon seit ihrer Erstveröffentlichung. Habe dieses schöne Box-Set meinem 29 jährigen Sohn geschenkt. Er war sehr angetan.
