The Scott Cao line of instruments is well known for fine workmanship and quality tone. The violin outfit includes a student case and brazilwood bow. The violin has a spruce top, Ebony fingerboard, chinrest and fittings. Rosewood tailpiece with 4 fine tuners. Strung with Thomastik Dominant strings. A beautiful fully-carved instrument with hand-painted varnish.

A poor quality Scott Cao--a surprise for the price & brand name. PARENTS use caution when selecting a student violin!
When selecting violins for students the quality of sound is my priority. I have liked Scott Cao violins and found them to have a warm rich tone. Yet, this one has a very poor sound. It is beautiful to the eyes, but thats about it. Quality student violins should have: 1.Good Tone, 2. Stay relatively in tune (after a few weeks of tuning a new strings) 3. Have a quality set up (especially the bridge and nut) 4. Good strings such as Thomastik Dominants. 5. Have a good student bow (such as a Glasser). This violin has a loud brassy sound and it seems like they added the beauty of rosewood to cover the actual sound of the violin. Parents, keep in mind that a 100.00 violin is a toy....not a student violin. Its like giving a Chef an easy bake oven to prepare a gourmet meal. Do not buy instruments that are new and very inexpensive. This violin is in the price range of a good student one (500.00 range). So it should have a much better sound. It is imperative that parents get a decent student violin. This greatly aids the child's learning.

Great value
An outstanding value violin. Beautifully made instrument with good sound. I’ve played professionally and taught for years and have not seen and heard a better instrument for the price. Both my daughter and now my granddaughter play it.
