Heist thriller starring Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman. Heavily in debt to the Russian mob, a veteran criminal (Freeman) decides to recruit a novice thief (Banderas) to help him steal two famous Faberge eggs from an impenetrable vault. Radha Mitchell co-stars as the temptress who comes between the partners in crime.

Daft but enjoyable
I’m pretty sure that when someone changed this film’s title from ‘The Code’ to THICK AS THIEVES they didn’t intend to trigger the association with ‘as thick as trees’. Unfortunately, that’s immediately what sprang to mind. Still, Morgan Freeman and Antonio Banderas in a heist movie. Can’t be too bad, surely? And no, it’s not too bad. It’s smirkingly silly and deeply derivative, borrowing every single cliché from earlier crime-capers. Think ‘Thomas Crown’ meets ‘Mission Impossible’ with the Russian mob thrown in, and then subtract all semblance of intelligence. The biggest mystery is how Tom Hardy appears so young. It was only filmed in 2009 but he looks to be about 15.Innocuous amusement. I really rather enjoyed it…7/10

Entertaining enough
The plot is a bit predictable, but good acting from Antonio Banderas and Morgan Freeman.

All the ingredients, no real spice.
Has all the ingredients to be great but is just ok. Not awful, because the photography is good and the budget was obviously healthy. But the story is very predictable. Every cliché possible and it failed to engage me emotionally. I just didn't care what happened, who got caught or didn't, how it was done or why. Some clever twist elements but just ok. There are so many other better films worth watching.
