Just after making a large gold discovery, an old prospector is ambushed and killed by three masked men but manages to kill two of his attackers before he dies. He also manages to scribble out a will, which is given to detective 'Silver' Ward Hogan, who is hired to track down the legitimate heirs and to try to find the third murderer.

MONEY etc SPANISH DV (DINERO MUJERES Y ARMAS)
Buyer be AWARE. The description here is misleading. If you require ENGLISH subtitles...There aren't any, regardless of the misleading info. You can get Spanish subs and it plays in English of course. A pity because the transfer is excellent Filmed in Scope, we get black bars top and bottom and good clear picture colour and sound. No extras. This isn't Mahoney's finest western - the clothes are too flashy as is the designer gunbelt, and not enough stunts, but the story is OK and the support cast is good, as is the location work. I always confuse this one with "LAST OF THE FAST GUNS" which I prefer even if in that one he wears ridiculous designer clothes and has a spectacular double gunbelt. I digress...This is a not bad film and Mahoney fans will love it as should most western lovers. Lovely print, fair price. Well worth a punt.

Good Western action and acting with English audio
Excellent, if overlooked Western, starring Jock Mahoney. Mahoney, who had earlier played in B-Westerns with Charles "Durango Kid" Starrett, graduated in the mid-1950s to higher status, with Universal Studios featuring him in a series of fine colour oaters, including A DAY OF FURY (with Dale Robertson), SHOWDOWN IN ABILENE, JOE DAKOTA, THE LAST OF THE FAST GUNS, and this vehicle, MONEY, WOMEN AND GUNS.. This particular issue, by the Spanish outlet, "Feel Films," is representative of a goodly list of Universal Westerns from the 1950s that they have released. One has the choice of the original English audio, or Spanish dubbing, or Spanish subtitles with the English, which makes these offerings attractive to English-speakers. And they are priced nicely and reasonably. Presentations are full screen. The prints are of fine quality. Fans of the that great heyday of fine Westerns will not be disappointed.

The Most Famous Detective In The West!Money, Women and Guns is directed by Richard H. Bartlett and written by Montgomery Pittman. It stars Jock Mahoney, Kim Hunter, Tim Hovey, Gene Evans, Tom Drake and Lon Chaney Jr. Music is by Joseph Gershenson and CinemaScope photography is by Philip Lathrop.A strange bag of oats is this one. The makers have offered up CinemaScope and parked up at Lone Pine to film it. The colour lensing is beautiful, while the story has promise unbound, yet it still struggles to come out in credit.Story sees an old prospector murdered at pic's start (we don't see who done the deed), so in comes detective Silver Ward Hogan (Mahoney). Hogan sets out to find the killer and also an heir to the dead man's fortune. And thus we have a sort of Hercule Poirot in the Wild West. Which is fun, and the mystery element is engaging and constantly strong. Yet the Scope potential is barely utilised, action is in short supply, and the acting performances - whilst adequate - reek of easy paycheck time. Not a waste of time by any stretch of the imagination, but it sure as hell is frustrating. 6/10
