No need to even turn your phone’s screen or go to the app - it works as a hotel key, just bring it close and it works. That’s what I was looking for when I did my research on the smart locks. The keypad is also great in case if you left your phone behind, no worries. It’s responsive and looks clean. I really like the overall design. The setup process was incredibly easy, and you didn’t need to download the Aqara App to connect it to HomeKit. The auto-locking feature is fantastic; it locks the door within seconds of closing it. However, if it doesn’t lock, it’s probably because the door didn’t close properly. This particular model (U50) doesn’t have fingerprint recognition, which I don’t mind.Connectivity is excellent, and I’ve been using it for over six months without needing to charge it (I’ll charge it soon). I believe the battery life is quite good. I haven’t encountered any issues so far and don’t anticipate any in the future. The build quality is excellent; full metal construction, with an incredibly satisfying key door. One is on my front door, so full weather exposure (granted, the porch does offer protection) and it’s still just fine. I do wish the rekeyable cylinder was compatible with my other keys, but it’s not a dealbreaker — it is still rekeyable if you have the tools and the right kind of key. Battery life is good, haven’t seemed to have any problems there (locking & unlocking electronically 2 times a day, on average). Installing them was super easy, the instruction video was very clear (although I would rather have a paper guide; videos can be annoying when working on stuff). The mechanism is fairly strong, though it has a little bit of trouble if your door has weather strips (if the deadbolt makes contact with the hole in the doorframe, it may or may not be strong enough to lock, depending on how hard the weather strips push the door out of equilibrium). I haven’t really used the password, since most of the time I either use automated proximity-based locking and unlocking (not natively supported, I use Home Assistant) or my phone (the HomeKit virtual keycard is super slick and very handy). My one gripe is that it doesn’t support WiFi unlocking (and remote management) by default — you need a proprietary hub to get it to do that. I just picked up their cheap 20 dollar USB Zigbee hub and that did the trick.
