This is an original acrylic painting on a 30x40cm (12"x16") stretched canvas. I painted this when our local Vicar retired, with some song lyrics in mind that we sang on her final church weekend away: Jesus Christ is calling, calling in the streets. "Who will join my journey? I will guide your feet." Listen, Lord Jesus - let me fears be few; Walk one step before me; I will follow You. I had known this Vicar since I was a teenager - I was a regular volunteer at a beautiful retreat centre in the Yorkshire Dales, where she and her husband were regular guests, and she had been a good friend to me. Who could have guessed that a decade later I would attend her church in Gloucester, and later be present at her retirement party! She taught us many things in the time we knew her - the most prominent being that God is kinder than we give him credit for. This painting is called Guide My Feet because she did not know where life would lead after retiring; what plans God had for her and what sort of ministry He would lead her in. I was reminded of when Jesus washed the disciples' feet, saying that unless they permit Him to wash them they could have no part in His life and work. May we let Him wash us - our feet, hands, heads and whole bodies as we surrender to Him, and may He lead us.
