A Life Stripped Bare: My Year Trying To Live Ethically

Fascinating and challenging account of attempt to live ethically.
This is a fascinating read as the author opens up his entire lifestyle to thorough scrutiny by a team of 'ethical auditors'. No area of his life is able to escape as he discovers how every single choice he and his family make throughout the day could have countless knock-on effects for others worldwide. It would be easy to become dispondent and feel overwhelmed by just how complicated and difficult it is to live more responsibly, and indeed we find the author facing up to these very feelings just a few chapters in.However, he realises that (forgive the following cliche) changing his lifestyle can only happen one small step at a time, and is something he can learn to enjoy and embed in his daily life. For me the book was helpful as I am undergoing a similar change in mindset to the author and examining my own lifestyle in order to make changes which will reduce the negative impact I can have on the world, and especially on the world's poorest. There are some helpful tips to get you started at the end of the book, but if you need more, the author has also compiled a directory of ethical services and products. I hope he thanks me for giving him free publicity here!!! Seriously though, if you appreciate the pressing need for human beings to re-examine and adjust their lifestyles (particularly in the western world) then you will also appreciate this book. Buy it second hand like i did and then pass it on to someone else, to save waste :)

Book to make you think - twice
Very important book to read. Every day there is mention of recycling, food waste, unethical practices, etc. He has been there, bought the T-shirt and has written this book. An eye opener to all readers - I believe that he was also amazed at some of his findings. Recommend to everyone - although probably will only attract those with some awareness of living ethically.

Ethical living
This is a great introduction to ethical living. It is easy to read and very amusing. The information is simple and easy to understand (I think implementing it is the challenge!). If you've read other books on ethical living or magazines such as the ecologist, then this won't add anything new or shocking, but for those new to the subject I can't recommend it enough. Well worth a go.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Buy This Book!!
Hickman's writing style is a pleasure to read, and the subject matter is down right fascinating. I never really thought that I'd be interested to learn about what happens to the rubbish that I throw out- turns out I'm enthralled!Really great book that shows the reader how s/he can reduce their carbon footprint. Hickman is a regular man who tries to make changes to his life that will benefit the planet in the process, and inspires the reader to do the same.It has really made me reassess the way that I live my life (and I'm already vegan, and consider myself to be relatively Eco-friendly), and I thoroughly recommend it.

Very insightful
A well written, comical, non-preaching book which makes you think about how you can change small things in your life and make a different, but also inspires you to do even more. Great book to have for later reference too.
