not quite there
This is an interesting book covering a wide remit of ideas, but the authors writing skills don't quite make it yet.It has the feel of Iain Banks, with the big ship minds and deep history, though perhaps there's too much generalisation of entire species; would every individual in a civilisation really have behaved much the same? But the writing itself isn't up to the task; while some of it is good, in other parts, in particular the character building and dialogue, it doesn't quite work. I'm guessing the book is self-published, and as such it's much better than most. The plot itself is interesting enough that at the current price I'll try the sequel and see how that goes.

Good in parts, slower in others
Generally an interesting read & concept. Personally I enjoyed the character driven sections over the machine only, which to me felt sometimes slow. However a story needs to be built. I will read the next in the series & see where I go from there

A Great Adventure!
This book took me on a journey of intrigue which had my heart racing at times. I'd listen and at times even broke out in a sweat during precarious situations. I loved being able to listen deep into the night after everyone had gone to bed so I could just immerse myself in the story and journey through the space adventures right along with the characters. Great story! Highly recommended! I received a free review copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Great book
I’m not normally a fan of sci-Fi, however, I thought this looked interesting. It was, I really enjoyed it. Characters and situations are cleverly drawn. The sense of space is really impressive. Looking forward to more in the series

Ready for round 2!
Loved it! Especially how the author highlights the disparities of the 2 civilisations and the build up of the universe. I hope the second book comes out soon...

Interesting start to a series
Initially I didn't enjoy the split between the two separate storylines that make up this book because early on you just end up not being invested enough in either half, but gradually it drew me in and by the end of the book I was looking forward to finding out what would happen next. While the two stories eventually intertwine, their scale and setting is vary different from the outset, Gil's story is on a much smaller and more personal scale to the larger more cosmic setting of the other half, but both halves build nicely together. The performance by the narrator is an interesting one, serving to give the book a greater sense of gravitas with his tone, while also managing to keep things sufficiently distinctive within a disparate cast.Overall, an interesting start to a series that got stronger as I listened to more of the book.[Note - I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.]

This is awesome!
I'm a massive sci-fi fan but still think if you're not it's worth it.

Thoroughly recommended
Wow! What an amazing read for a mature woman!Science Fiction is certainly not my usual genre, but was tempted to try something different. Loved the humane characterisation and relationship between Gil and Tor, intertwined with the more serious challenge to my limited scientific knowledge! Struggled initially as I flicked back and forth, to / from glossary, to familiarise myself with new terminology - but well worth the perseverance as it held me in good stead to continue, and thoroughly enjoy, reading the book.Well done James Murdo. Now about to purchase, and look forward to reading,Wanderers Book 2 ‘ Searching the Void’
