a real fattie of a flip knife
This thing's not for the faint of heart. Beast of a knife.Made in China. Well made, at that. It's not made of expensive stuff, it's got nylon washers and an 8Cr14MoV blade, G10 handles and backspacer, thick steel liner. But everything's good. The handles have a lot of grip. The blade has jimping for the thumb ramp. If I were to highlight a flaw, there's no spring or particular oomph to the flipper out of the box, and because the blade is so thunderously chunky, an absolute unit, you do have to work a bit to snap it open onehanded. Some people aren't happy if you can't flip a flipper open just with one finger, and if that's you, you'll probably need to fiddle with the works some to get this knife to the point that it glides open with a nudge. As it stands you'll work your wrist but this thing will deliver a satisfying ssshKLAK as it locks open and it... looks undeniably cool when you do that. (hey, I know what I like. )The handle's a great design and the sculpting of the G10 really works for me. Tremendous amounts of grip. This thing's heavy but it feels like it's got a good balance. You can wave it around in a saber grip, and the weight is where you want it with a reverse grip for a knife this size. The nominal retail price for this is around $80. That's in line with the build quality but not the chromium stainless or the thick flipper, if i paid that much for this knife I'd be a bit let down by it. I wouldn't feel like I got ripped off per se, I just wouldn't think it was tremendous value for money. For the price they're going for, now? It's a great value. You'll want a belt if you are going to tote this thing around in your hip pocket. The build quality is in line with everyday carry but the weight's up there. So if you're one of those people who needs to have roughly the same things in your pockets every time you go out, this knife probably won't be among them. It's fun, though. And it feels well made enough to be worth five stars.Seems like there's a lot more quality at this price point than there used to be ten years ago. Makes me happy.
