I used them to slow down the opening of a loft hatch - I probably should have gone for the 200N model but these do work. Review: I needed soft opening struts - And these were the only ones I could find within budget. Deciding to finally install the loft ladder, I needed to change the loft access from an inny to an outy. Doing this from 18mm ply I was concerned that the weight of the access door swinging down could pose a risk to anyone underneath it, and put extra stress on the hinges. So I wanted struts that would arrest the speed of the opening door. Now whilst soft closing is everywhere, soft opening was harder to find, but after a while I found these. Now they do work well, even more so for the mass they are being used for, but the majority of the effect is towards the end of the arm extension, this means the access door has the ability to drop open, but these slow that down very quickly and prevent any swinging. They also hold the access door away from the ladder, so I don't have to deal with ladder and door banging about. I can't seem to get the right angle to allow the door to close. thanks!** A: I'm having trouble fitting them for drop down door also. The door comes down about 90 % from opening to open position. But the piston hinge is difficult to figure out the position. I think I fully extend it first, then position the door at the desired maximum opening angle (my case about 90 degrees). Then match the fully extended piston hinge into the position with as much vertical position possible because you will need the piston to contract and move into complete vertical position as the door closes. Is that about right? **Q: Would these work on a pull down spice shelf from under an upper cabinet?** A: I doubt it. Their primary purpose is to hold a lid up, not hold it closed. The damper relies on gravity to keep any cover shut, so it probably won't be able to support the weight of a spice shelf in place while it's closed. **Q: Is the weight of 22 lbs for just one strut or are two struts needed for the 22 lbs max?** A: 1 Hinge = 22lbs, weight support will be doubled with 2 hinges **Q: I have a desk drawer that keeps flopping open. Used them in some IKEA Ekket cupboards I ve positioned sideways and they are amazing. Good instructions with specific details on door weight - angle - position guides.
