Suited purpose

Ordered this product to hold our existing Global knives, as the official Global knife blocks are a crazy price.The quality of the wood was very good but the blade slots were much too wide. Even or biggest knives rattled around in them and the smallest knives simply disappeared into the block, handle and all!Have had to return it as it just wouldn't work for us. Shame as with slimmer slots it would be perfect.

From the picture I thought I was buying a knife block that was decent quality and getting it at a good price only because it wasn't a brand name. In the end I got something that seems like it was made by a young kid. The slots are too wide so my knives sit at various angles and the wood inside is rough and splintery. The wood is of poor quality: pieces that fell off were glued back on, imperfections were filled with strange colored paste, and it was put together with various pieces of wood that don't match by shade or grain direction. It functions, but is by no means attractive to the eye. If I knew it would be this bad, I would have spent the money for something nicer.

I have to totally disagree with the one star reviewer. I've owned this knife block for probably 10 years. Mine is even coloured, wood was the same colour, no rough edges etc.My knives sit in it fine - I have the right sized large knives to go in it and I haven't noticed them at odd angles. I usually put 2 of my smaller tomato knives in the sideways slots, which is handy to fit more in.I like this one because it's at the right angle for drawing a knife from, since mine sits under my cupboards, it wouldn't be ideal or safe to have a block where the knives are totally upright.I've been very happy with it. I'm only seeking to replace it now, because I put it in the dishwasher and the wood joins started to come apart, which is what you'd expect I guess so that was dumb of me!
