Packard: An Illustrated History 1899-1958

I found this book to be a great disappointment. Many of the images are lacking in sharpness and several are dark enough that the details are murky. I also wish that some of the image stock hadn't been culled from period advertisements and catalog pages. Quality photography makes a book like this and I know more could have been done to clean up what's offered here. No complaints about Foster's text.

Given that the book is titled “An Illustrated History”, I had expected more photos, and especially many color photos. There are not as many photos as I had hoped for and expected, and not as many color photos as I had expected, but then, such a book would be several inches thick. Overall, book contains sufficient photos and text to hold the reader’s attention and interest, and the text is well written. One of my grandfathers had a Packard when I was young, so I read the book with particular interest in the 52-53 Packards, and how the company went out of business. The book is well worth the purchase price to me.

Patrick Foster, the author of this book, is a favorite of mine. He writes a monthly column for Hemmings Classic Cars, and is known to do exhaustive and comprehensive research on whatever topic he writes about. For Packard fans and those who like old cars in general, this book is a winner!

Not worth anything near the money I paid for it. I wanted to look up some 1950 models and there is limited info and crappy pics. Look elsewhere for Packard history.
