It works, but not as I expected it to ...
It works, but not as I expected it to. I thought that when the soil was permeated to a certain level it would stop releasing water and continue releasing it slowly for several days afterward keeping the soil evenly moist. Not so. I inserted the terra cotta portion, filled the glass globe and put it on top. Within about 6 hours it had drained completely. I hadn't watered this pot in some time so I thought maybe it just needed a little more water. Overnight it drained the 2nd globe and left a puddle under the pot. It seems really, really wet. Maybe this wasn't supposed to be for indoor use? Maybe it has to be used with a specific type of potting mix?

These work great!
These globes work very well, especially for someone who forgets to regularly water plants! The globe holds enough water for about 2 weeks so it can also water a plant when you are gone for that length of time. The only downside is that they are rather expensive so the number I have is limited. If they were cheaper I'd buy a bunch more.

Absolutely love the watering globe, would never go back to life before it!
I researched quite a bit before settling on this watering globe. I was torn between this and the plant nanny. Even though this one is on the expensive side, it was so worth it because of its bigger size and once you receive it you will see how high quality it truly is. I ended up buying 3 of these to use for my tomato plants, peppers, and eggplant. They were so easy to put in the soil, I followed a review that suggested wetting the stake before placing it in the ground, so I did that and then I kept rotating it into the soil till it was completely submerged. Each plant varies with how much water it needs so I notice that my tomato plants take 1 day to use up the water in a globe, but the pepper and eggplant still have some remaining water when I check the following night. I have a 15 gallon plant container and in that one I need to use 2 globes for adequate water supply, but my 7 gallon container just needs one. I have been using the globes for 6 weeks now and my plants are doing great. Before buying the globe, the eggplant had been suffering from the heat and watering it once a day wasn't working and the plant would often wilt, but since placing the globe the plant has never once wilted.

Visually pretty & holds more water than wine bottles. Very pleased
I was worried about these standing out and not looking nice. They are subtle, and visually attractive. The look is much better than an upside down wine bottle. (I bought both options to compare. Who wants booze bottles all over their garden?)These surprised me by holding just as much water (actually, a tiny bit more).I travel in the summer and even with a house sitter, none of my plants get watered often enough. These work wonderfully for LARGE pots. (Trees etc.) I've now ordered the small nanny globes for my smaller pots. Maybe everything won't die this summer!

but I like the concept
It's hard to tell how it will work in the Arizona desert, but I like the concept. I will have to update later.

This is a beautiful watering globe and a pretty accent for a houseplant.

Good to control overflow of water
Excellent to control overflow. Plastic pots no longer sit in water in the bottom of the decorative pots that have no drainage. I use these for all my indoor plants. Most are doing better than ever.
