It is a pity that some poor research recorded in the chapter on Harold Wilson confuses Roy Jenkins, a former Home Secretary, with Hugh Jenkins, the latter having been MP for Putney. Words spoken by Hugh Jenkins are attributed to the former Home Secretary and this gives the words an authority in that they were not, in fact spoken, by someone who had once had charge of the security service.

What an inspiring read.
I’m sure that everyone starting to read this book has their own opinions on past & present Prime Ministers. It is only natural for us to look at things in ‘Black & White’ and to wonder why did they (P/Ms) not see things as we do.However, after reading this book it’s not surprising to see that things are NOT as straightforward as they seam. Our Security Services will inevitably be faced, and will need to deal with, people who will, for reasons of their own, select parts of intelligence offered to fit in with their own agenda, dangerous, but as I say, inevitable. You can only have respect for the people that achieve the position of Prime Minister and wish them well.

An Interesting Read
An authoritative and detailed examination of the relationships over the years between Prime Ministers and the Intelligence Services. Quite academic and somewhat hard going on places. Never the less provided lots of examples as to how intelligence is used, and misused by those elected to power.

Interesting insights, entertaining read.
A fascinating insight into a murky world. It is clear the from slightly different styles that the authors divided the task but no harm in that. It would really benefit from a very strong editorial hand as there's unnecessary repetition and too many grammatical mistakes for a work from two academics.
