Life expectancy is longer than you would think.
I initially purchased these boots from Payless Shoes, and then again here on Amazon. In all honestly, the comfort and quality is something I would pay $80 for. I'm a health and safety inspector (OSHA) and log over 10,000 steps a day. My first pair of these boots lasted me approximately 1 year. I not only beat them up at work, but also while hiking, fishing, shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, etc. Given the amount of stress I put on them I am surprised they lasted as long as they did. This is exactly why I purchased a second pair.Look at it this way. You can purchase a pair of Merrill boots that will last you 2-3 years for $150. Sure, they will still be in-tact. But I guarantee they will look worn, faded, and stained. Or you can purchase these boots for $30, beat them up for a year, and then buy a fresh new pair for $30.**Update**I have added two photos thay were taken today during New York's 2017 blizzard. I have been walking around in 2 feet of snow for most of the day shoveling my property and my feet have remained warm all throughout.

The negative reviews baffle me
I noted some negative comments on these that concerned me before buying, namely the speed laces, waterproofing, and endurance, fit. the fit is exactly on mark. the speed laces are standard steel looped eyelets, the color is exactly the same as image, the waterproofing is; well i stood in water up to my ankles and no water penetrated. as for the endurance, this boot (and it does have a very boot feel, so don;t expect it to feel like a pair of sneakers) is about as heavy as a car tire, noting the bottom vulcanized rubber line. If you can crack that, well God bless you. another showed a split where the vulcanized rubber meets the suede at the side of the ball of the foot. i can't image how much wear and force that would take; a lot. If you need something more durable than vulcanized rubber and this construction, you really should be in a professional pair of work boots, not fooling around with hiking boots.

Careful. You're taking a chance with these.
I purchased a pair of these on February 4th of this year and had the delivered on February 7th. I read the reviews which were overall very good. I read a few that referenced soles coming apart but figured, as these types of reviews were few, I wouldn't worry too much about them.About three weeks ago, I noticed my left boot felt thinner on it's left side near the heel. I didn't bother looking at the soles at first because I'd only had the boots for less then 2 months. I adjusted the extra padded insoles I put in thinking they were misaligned but this didn't help. I then took a look and, sure enough, the sole was coming off. Additionally, the rubber of the sole had cracks which I found unusual. How could the rubber have been brittle enough to crack after less than 2 months?I haven't put these through much at all. During the winter, I take fast walks along the paved bike path by the river near my work place. The pavement is level and I've only walked it when it was clear of snow. The boots likely come into contact with a little road salt but nothing else corrosive. Even if these boots had come into contact with lots of salt and even if I had used them over rugged terrain for an extended period, isn't it reasonable to expect them to hold up under these conditions for a while? Shouldn't I expect to get a year at least out of these, even putting them extensively through their paces?I've read a lot of great reviews about these and I have no reason to doubt the reviewers. I guess it's just a crap shoot. From my own experience, I can tell you you're taking a chance with these boots.Needless to say, this company won't be getting any more of my money.

They are a bit larger than I expected, which is somewhat interesting, but what did concern me was that the loop on the corner after the metal loops broke on my first try. I'm surprised they did not put the metal hooks as a 3rd metal hook as it is in this area that the most pressure will often be placed when tightening the boot. I needed to use the boot that day for hiking, so I was quite happy with the grip that allowed to climb a relatively steep mountainous area with little to no problem. It's a bit inconveniencing to send the pair back, but I may consider it as the boot ran a bit looser considering that I could not use that 3rd loop from the top to tighten the boot due to it breaking. Thank you for checking in. As for the fit, maybe a 13.5 would have fit more snugly since these ran a little large, but I'm ok with it too.

Purchased to replace an older worn out pair of Outback Mid Hiker boots. The new ones are of considerably poorer quality. The originals were leather uppers and lasted 15 or so years with minimal care. These are made of inferior materials.

Overall very happy with these.
These are great shoes and quality constructed. The only thing I did not like was the rear heel for some reason slants upward instead of being flat. This can take getting used to while walking because it has a tendency to tilt down in the back.

Loved the look and the feel
Loved the look and the feel. Very sturdy looking... But, the boots sole broke away and tore at 45 days use. :( now I need to buy new boots already. Good thing they were less then $40 or I would have been upset. Cheap price, cheap boot.

comfy and warm. great fit!
very comfortable. they're my favourite shoes now. the sole is weird with a dramatic role on the toe and heel but only noticable on hard floors. grips the dirt just fine and adds a lot of stability to my step. my feet are happy in the woods now.

11 weeks of use and their done
With in a very short time the heal of both of the boots ruptured making the boots un-usable. less then 3 months from delivery and they are trash. Not nearly as rugged as they look.
