Old Black Witch! Hardcover – Illustrated, September 18, 2012

My mother read this book to me when I was a child. I love that I could share it with my kids now. I was so excited to find out they were still printing it all these years later. My mom read it to me in the 70’s!

I loved getting a brand new hard cover copy of this lovely book that was out of print for way too long!Fun story with beautiful illustrations.

This book was a favorite of mine growing up. A charming tale with the undeniable message that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness, respect and acceptance, and allowing someone a bit different to bring their unexpected, special gifts to the table can create a reality even more beautiful than was originally imagined.I was so very happy to find Old Black Witch still available to buy for my first granddaughter! It is and will always be a classic in our home, as is the recipe for blueberry pancakes you’ll find within!

This is a fun, light hearted kids book that is fun for all ages. I grew up with this and have shared it with my kids. A simple story of a mom and her son starting a business in an old house occupied by a quirky old witch!

This book was one of my son's favorites as a child. He is now almost 50 and I am reading it to my grandchildren. It was out of print for a few years and I was excited to see it in print again, I had lost the back cover with the pancake recipe! Fun to read.

Old Black Witch! deserves 5 stars on its own merits. That, and if I dare give her anything less, she might turn me into a toad. She is ornery as anything, which is the perfect level and flavor of "wicked" for young audiences. She compromises and shares, she shows compassion by helping, she deals out some justice, and, in demanding days off in which to be nasty, she remains true to her roots. Old Black Witch is the star of the show, but Nicky and his mother still feel like real characters.The artwork is scratchy, yet sophisticated if you know much about cartooning. The glaring flaw in this book is that the pictures don't always share the same page as the corresponding text, which can frustrate the read-aloud experience. Both that and the occasionally slightly awkward writing are fixed in book 2, Old Witch and the Polka-Dot Ribbon, which is perfection.I am in awe of these books and I recommend them right and left. And I eat the pancakes.
