The forward/reverse switch seems reversed. Lathe turns forward when switch is in reverse position, and vice versa.** A: looking from the tailpiece toward the chuck: forward is counter clockwise reverse is clockwise. Mine seems to turn a little slower in reverse so if yours is wired wrong at the switch you might consider that.
