Great for my old kitty with arthritis
My older kitty has been slowing down because of her arthritis, and so I thought it might help her to have a heating pad. I bought the 11.8 inch round heating pad and put it in the bed of her cat tree, where it fits nicely. This has always been a sleeping and playing spot for the cats, so it didn't take long for them to discover the heating pad. It was so popular that they sometimes actually fight over it! So I went ahead and bought a second one and put it in the bed of another cat tree. My older kitty moves around a lot more now, and is even playing like a kitten! I think it has made a big difference for her arthritis, and both cats definitely love it and use it a lot. I've included a picture of Amy, my 17 year old kitty, about to lay on the heating pad while eyeing my camera phone suspiciously.I love the fact that it has adjustable temperature. I think the temperature display is in Celsius, and can be adjusted in 5 degree increments from 25 to 55. I keep set it at 40, which is slightly above the normal body temperature of 37C, and the cats appear to like 40 better than 35. It has an on/off switch and up/down buttons for the temperature, and is very easy to use. The first 3 feet or so of cord has a chew-resistant covering, with the controller at the end of it, and the power cable with A/C adapter plugs into the controller. There is a washable cover with a zipper, which I've already washed when one of the cats decided to vomit a hairball on the heating pad.Overall, I'm very pleased with this purchase. My cats are even more pleased than I am, and they highly recommend this heating pad for your older kitties who are moving slower than they used to because of their arthritis.

Soft heating pad with adjustable temperature that resets if power flickers.
The good things are: Soft cover, removable for washing; adjustable temperature; heats well. The not so good things: cord is rather stiff; has a bulky transformer plug; does not retain heat settings or power on setting if power goes out.Every few months, my house power cuts randomly for a split second. This loss of power causes the heater to totally reset. When that happens I have to turn unit back on and set the temperature again. The cue is that the LED display no longer displays the temperature; it's blank. So I have to check everyday if the unit is on or not. I also have the other type of heating pad where you can't set the temperature and there is no on-off switch, it's "dumb" but it works and stays working after power interruptions.Since I don't like checking on it everyday - it has reset twice in 6 months, I just went back to the other heating pad. I sewed a cover for the other pad from an old towel and that works well. I think for this type of product - set once, always on; it really needs to be able to handle power outages. Minimally a one second power outage, preferably indefinite. This product could be made better by changing from a push button to a multi-position switch for power and temperature, example: off - on 35 - on 45 - on 55. That way, you set it once and there won't be any issues with resets.Side note: there also isn't a need for that many temperature settings: 25,30,35,40,45,50,55. Probably: low, med, high is sufficient for all climates.Alternatively, they could keep the current design and add a capacitor to handle short power disruptions.

Don't Buy if you can't solder!
As some of the reviews indicate, it may not work when you get it. Mine didn't. Since I had been forwarned, I was cautious and connected the unit to a programmable power supply instead of using the included power adapter. Good thing too, because it showed a dead short. Since reviewers have indicated problems with returns, I opened the control unit. Solder short right across the power jack. There is no way this unit was ever tested. Also, i'm sure the power adapter is fuse protected, so if I had plugged it all up in good faith, I would have trashed the wall transformer as well. Further inspection revealed a huge solder blob on one leg of the glass mini fuse going thru the PCB that wasn't attached to the copper on the board. I removed the solder short on the power jack, then reheated the blob on the fuse and soldered it to the PCB. Everything works now. We'll see if it's still working in 60 days.As far as 3 stars on chew prove and other selections, the way the unit has been installed prevents these problems, but I don't think cheap plastic and cloth is any match for canine teeth. My opinion so 3 stars. However, I bought what I needed.

Think below room temp, but great when freezing, takes a while for animal to to discover it
The neighborhood mouser took over a year to try this pad out. I almost unplugged it. Finally when it got cold enough he is now trying to get some warmth. It is 55 degrees but feels good when it is 35. I wish it was a bit bigger, he is a small cat.

Extremely comfortable for a small pet
I have an 11 year old cat with health problems and he’s frequently too chilly in the house whether it’s winter or summer. This smaller pad was perfect for his bed. I will soon be ordering the larger version for our couch so he can be comfortable without having to go to another room. That’s probably more for my benefit than his. It’s gotten so that I miss sitting with him at night because he’s gone to snuggle into his warm comfy bed. I’ve tried other pads for him in the past but this is the one that he’s happiest with. It’s soft. It’s well made. It’s easy to remove the cover when it needs cleaning. The temperature is easy to control. I’m comfortable leaving it on 24/7 without concern for overheating. There’s no downside to this pad. It’s perfect.

Great product, for indoor use
I ordered this product and obviously didn't read the directions very carefully. I had planned to use it for my outdoor cats, but once I got it and read the directions it said Not For Outdoor Use. So I am returning it. However, the pad was nice and soft with an easy to read/use thermostat. I think it would have been great for a small indoor pet.
