Highly Recommended!
The author of this book has invested a considerable amount of his own time in providing a set of free resources to help people learn Latin. The free course looks quite good, but it is not exactly beginner material. So, as the author suggests, I went back to his book with the intention of returning to the free materials later.I started using the sample Kindle edition of this book and absolutely flew through the lessons in no time, without any frustration. I bought the Kindle edition and I'm still flying through the lessons. In fact, they are so easy that I decided to squeeze out every drop of information by writing all my answers in Latin and in English, and by reading aloud all of the questions and answers.About 30 years ago, I taught myself Italian from the book "La Lingua Italiana Per Stranieri" (The Italian Language for Foreigners). The teaching style is very similar to that used in "Getting Started with Latin". I was speaking Italian comfortably after about three months, and I now speak Italian fluently.I don't expect to become fluent in Latin, but the knowledge I gain from this book will definitely improve my understanding of other languages. I'm also looking forward to reading classics in Latin.Highly Recommended!

Look no further! This is THE book if you wish to learn Latin! It's excellent!
This must really be the best book for those starting out to learn Latin. I've so enjoyed every lesson so far, and feel that I'm making satisfactory progress without frustration at any point, not a boring moment, just fun! There aren't, as yet, enough words of praise in my vocabulary neither in English nor Latin that do justice to this book. All I can say is "Choose this one if you're starting out!" It will give a perfect foundation for more advanced studies.

As a complete adult beginner I loved this book
As a pensioner this is a great book for starting to learn Latin. I have loved working through it. It’s structuring enables the reader to translate sentences from the outset. Grammar and vocabulary is introduced gradually initially. By the end of the book the sentences being translated become much more complex. It becomes an enjoyable challenge. However if anyone is studying for GCSE Latin this is possibly not the book to use simply because very little of the vocabulary in this book is common to the required GCSE syllabus. It is written by an American, has an answer section at the end and a free computer program as a guide to pronunciation.

Excellent book
This is really good. My 7 year old son started Latin at school as a club. He was just given pages to translate and he didn't get it. Having learned another language I thought that was an odd way to teach it I brought this book after reading the reviews. In 2 days we have done 8 lessons as they are simple and quick and more how I was taught a language. We are both learning this and enjoying doing it together. The pronounciations are on line which really help and it recaps the lesson. Throughly recommend this. I have spent the last day saying ''I am a sailor and farmer' or variations!

Great for home educators who want to learn Latin with their children
A very useful resource for those who home educate, and want to learn Latin. It's almost impossible in the UK to find Latin resources for children - they are much more common in the US. This is great - each lesson focusses on one new word, or verb, so you can do one lesson a day, or more if you are really getting into it. Nice pace, and a pronunciation guide in the back is very good too.

I would recommend this book to anyone embarking on language learning.
I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to learn the Romance languages and Indo European languages. This book is designed in tiny chapters based on one word, ten questions and the answers. Each chapter uses the one word to build little grammar blocks, slowly building understanding. It is a bit of a slog and gets tedious at times because of this unrelenting one word, one point system but if you have patience and perseverance is pays dividends. As the Latin grammar builds, so too does the understanding of the Indo European language structure in general. It is aimed at home schoolers and home learners. I am not sure that it would help children without other material because it is very dry and likely to put them off with boredom. For an adult who can tolerate the tedium it is well worth it. There is on line support too.

Effective and user-friendly
I have a few resources being new to learning Latin, including Ørberg’s “Lingua Latina PSI” (for immersion) and the strength to this excellent book is the step-by-step consolidation of words and grammatical principles, that help to drum the information in. It covers the essentials and I see from a video on the author’s website that a follow-up book is imminent. The same website contain MP3 files so the reader can hear the correct pronunciation for both Classical and Ecclesiastical Latin. This book is effective, generous in terms of extras, and good value.

Very pleased ego sum
I decided to learn ecclesiastical Latin - because I need something to exercise my brain (I am in my sixties) and because I am a Catholic and will hopefully find it useful. This is a great book. It comes in bit size pieces. Very easy to read and understand and on line you can get the proper pronunciation of the words and tutorials. When you read it, it is as if the author is speaking to you. I am up to chapter 20 already! Each subsequent chapter builds on the last one. I can go as quickly or slowly as I like. I bought it as a kindle book (its on my phone.) I am learning whilst commuting to work. Highly recommended.
