In The Spirit Of Beatrix Potter ...
In the spirit of Beatrix Potter, Emma Thompson has given readers "The Further Tale Of Peter Rabbit." Like Beatrix Potter's Peter Rabbit, the hero of Thompson's tale is mischievous and prone to disobeying his mother. Like the classic Peter Rabbit, that character in "The Further Tale Of Peter Rabbit" is clever, resourceful, and quick-witted. Like the classic Peter Rabbit, Emma Thompson's Peter Rabbit learns there are consequences associated with his disobedience."The Further Tale Of Peter Rabbit" is nicely illustrated. Without resorting to copying those of Beatrix Potter, Eleanor Taylor's illustrations are still reminiscent of Potter's work The colors are bright; the watercolor style is translucent; and the realism of the art work all serve to enhance Emma Thompson's story. These beautiful illustrations help make this a 5 star book."The Further Tale Of Peter Rabbit" is an very enjoyable read-aloud book for parents or grandparents to share at their toddler's bedtime. It is also one that younger readers may enjoy reading to themselves. A CD of "The Further Tale Of Peter Rabbit" which Emma Thompson reads is included with the book. It is a nice touch since beginning readers may use it in conjunction with their learning to read. You will want to add Emma Thompson's "The Further Tale Of Peter Rabbit" to your child's library. It is a 5 star book.

Another Great Peter Rabbit Book
In the Further Tale of Peter Rabbit, Emma Thompson includes a note to the reader. She tells of receiving package from 110 year old Peter to write a new story about another of his mischievous adventures. Peter becomes involved with both Mr, and Mrs. McGregor, a Scottish rabbit family, Scottish Games competition and eating too many radishes. This beautifully bound book has the wonderful artwork of Eleanor Taylor. The flap of the dust jacket and colorful endpaper includes clever nibbling...by Peter, of course!

A weaker story compared to the other two
I have all three Peter Rabbit/Emma Thompson books (Christmas Tale, Spectacular Tale, Further Tale) and Further Tale is a pretty weak story. My rating is low based on fact that Peter is sort of a secondary character. Cousin Finlay was put first and Peter just kind of get whisked away in the Scottish culutre with much of a storyline. Also, the reading is much slower pace than other two books as well.

A Delightful Book!
I purchased this book for my preschool-age daughter after hearing it favorably reviewed on an NPR podcast. It quickly became one of my daughter's favorite books, and it's one that I love reading to her, as well. The illustrations are beautiful and capture the subtle beauty and imagination of classic Beatrix Potter stories. The narrative is also in keeping with Beatrix Potter's works, although I find Emma Thompson's version to be even more entertaining and endearing. This book is good literature on a very small, accessible scale--perfect for introducing young children to good, rich books at a young age. The story has a satisfying, cohesive narrative arc and contains a few great moments of irony. Everything about the book is very well done. And, the accompanying CD in which Emma Thompson reads her story is fantastic! Her beautiful, dynamic narration paired with the delightful background makes this a great bedtime or playtime CD. My daughter loves it.Overall, this is a very high-quality, sophisticated book for little ones. If you are tired of the silly, zany, vapid stuff that is often marketed to young children today, this is your book! We've also given it as a gift. This will be an enduring favorite of ours.I hope to see more children's literature from Emma!

So enchanting. Emma Thompson is a favorite!
Emma Thompson, you're just one of my favorite people ever. Professor Trelawny, Sense & Sensibility, Mrs. Potts, and now this?! You're so fantastic! We adore every single one of these Further Tales with accompanying audio cd books. Honestly my children & I have listened to them about 500 times. These books capture Peter's personality perfectly. The illustrations still have that classic charming feel to them. These are a perfect addition to our Peter Rabbit collection! Definitely a MUST BUY for Beatrix Potter lovers.

Bravo Emma!!!! More please?
If you ever read and enjoyed the Beatrix Potter tales, this is for you. Emma is amazing in her talent, and the CD included with the book of her reading the story is spot on. I laughed and delighted out loud. The illustrations are something Beatrix herself would highly enjoy! Do yourself a favor, buy it for your kid, or for yourself just because you need a warm Scottish smile.

Great Story
This is a great addition to the Beatrix Potter stories. The illustrations, language, and flow of the story well match the original stories. In this story, Peter seems to have found his adventuresome spirit again - as evidenced by going back into Mr. McGregor's garden on his own.The one negative: the CD makes a very soft noise in line with some of the background sounds which makes it hard for my 3 year old to know when to turn the pages. She does however, enjoy listening to this CD even when we are not looking at the pictures. She loves all the Beatrix Potter books.

Beautiful illustrations, sweet story
Beautiful illustrations, sweet story, and the cd is awesome! I think it is a bit pricey, but for a collector's type item it is nice. The dust jacket was a little ripped when my copy arrived. I was a bit disappointed, but just took it off and stored it to prevent further damage. My children enjoyed the story with the cd.
