The waistband is "just the right width" to provide the perfect level of comfort. I once wore a pair of these with a pair of synthetic hiking shorts and a stay-dry tee shirt at a water park. I took a ride down a water slide, and after walking in the sun for about a half hour, you'd never know I had ever gotten wet. For traveling, this are unbeatable. Hand wash them in a sink at night, wring them out, and hang on a doorknob for about two hours. They're ready to go again. They aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. I can't say enough good things about these. If you get a pair, you'll probably order six more. I know, because I did. They typically last about 2-3 years. Well worth the price! I find it best not to put them in the dryer - use a very low heat if you do.

I got these for travel when we do hand laundry every day or 2, so we don't have to lug around as much luggage. They ar light weight enough to dry over night every time. After hand washing, I wring them out as much as possible, the lay them on a towel and roll it up and gry to press out as much more water as possible. They are always dry in less than 10 hours for us. And, they take up half the space of his tidy-whities. No problem with shrinkage. Elastic is strong. He thinks they are comfortable.
