Once I did that my second monitor popped and worked fine.
Works well, as advertised. One thing to note is that I had to install the driver for the adapter before my second monitor would recognize a signal. For windows 10 it was being recognized as a storage device. I had to go to "This PC" and find as if it were a usb storage, click on it and install the driver. Once I did that my second monitor popped and worked fine.

Good but not for me
No complaints, because i wasn't using 3.0, but when hooked up, it didn't work very well. I mean it did work, but wasn't as clear as other units I have used in the past. Also, if your PC doesn't have live USB ports at all times, or your using on a laptop... Every time you fire it up it takes like 10 seconds to function... In the meantime you can't do anything because the screen is blinking and your "screen resolution" pops up.Again... I don't know if it's my hardware causing the issue so I am going to take one start away for a lack of compatibility.(Note, I purchased a different model that cost about twice as much, after about a week of using this one... No problems at all. So it was either a USB 3.0 compatibility issue or it is just a little less convenient but for the price, not that suprised).

Very good adapter for adding another monitor to a computer/laptop
I got this to add another monitor to my laptop and workstation. I already have a large screen monitor plugged directly to my laptop. I had a smaller lcd screen doing nothing so I decided to add that to my set up. I needed an adapter for the other monitor. This is perfect. I have added the monitor and extended my desktop to it.When I got the adapter, I noticed the USB plug was blue. In order for this adapter to work as designed, it needs to be plugged in to a USB 3.0. Luckily my laptop had one.The adapter does come with software that needs to be installed so the computer recognizes the device. When you plug the adapter in the first time, you should see the computer reacting to it and wanting to know what to do with it. I ran the software then rebooted the laptop. I then went in to Screen Properties to set up the extra monitor.

Hopeful, But Disappointed
I was really hopeful this would be my solution to adding a 2nd monitor to my PC. Unfortunately, there is no documentation for this product when it arrives, and it did not work on either computer I tried this on. I searched online and tried to find a software solution, but nothing worked. It might be my PC, it might be the Windows OS, but when trying this adapter, the PC would not recognize the monitor. When I finally ordered an HDMI to VGA adapter, it worked perfectly on the PC I was trying to add a 2nd monitor to, without software, without even rebooting the PC. It seems like a well-constructed adapter, but if there are no instructions, no troubleshooting options offered, and it simply doesn't work, then it is worthless.

Cannot get higher resolutions without USB 3.0
The main problem I have with this item is the fact that higher resolutions are not possible without USB 3.0. I was looking for a cheap alternative to installing new video cards into my system. But without being able to get higher resolution than 800 by 600, it tends to make the effort pointless. I did install a USB 3.0 pcie card and was able to get a higher resolution on one monitor but the other smaller monitor the video shakes, and Windows 10 continues to give me an error saying that the adapter is not giving off the proper resolution. When I plug the adapter into a 3.0 port I lose output on both monitors. The main point being is: check compatibility before you purchase. Most likely I will be returning the item to install the proper video cards into my system.

Make sure you connect to a USB 3.0 port.
I like the fact that adapter acts like a flash drive, which contained the driver. However, my adapter did not come with any paper documentation. In the flash drive there were only two files, a driver, and another file with Chinese characters. After installing however, it only showed my monitor in 800x600 resolution. Was frustrating for several days. Then I realized that it was connected to the USB 2.0 port of my laptop. When I shifted it to another USB port which was 3.0, it changed the resolution to 1280x1024. All is well. Would give it 5 stars except for the lack of documentation.

seems fine but could be better
ok i will update my first review. I did not get any instructions with the package so i thought it was plug and play. it did not work at first. I went back and re-read the reviews and to my surprise there is a driver but its not self evident, thanks to some satisfied purchasers I found the driver. I gave no more than three stars for that major omission (no instructions) and due to the pc crashing (BSD) during installation (win 7 pro). after the laptop came back I am now able to use both my monitors and not have to use the laptop built in display.

Choppy and unreadable when you try to show complex things
I attached it and ran the software included, but the result was bad. It shows a monitor, but the refresh rate is terrible. It can show very simple things on your second monitor without an issue, but when I tried, for example, to move my Outlook Calendar to that monitor, it was completely pixelated and chopped up. Pretty much the only thing it can show without difficulty is desktop icons and notepad. My USB is 3.0, so I don't know what the issue is or why others are so happy with this.
