(prototype). It was my first time doing a PV system, so there was a huge learning curve, especially in a foreign country out in the villages where you can't just run to Home Depot and get what you need! Although the instructions say don't get it wet, it does have an IP32 waterproof rating. That was one reason why I purchased it. That means it's protected from water spray less than 15 degrees from vertical. So, it can withstand a bit of water. It's performed well, I like the features and the ability to set multiple parameters. The only reason 4 stars is the owners manual is not translated well, and has multiple grammatical and spelling errors making it challenging for anyone, especially a newbie to figure things out. Now I see there is a similiar looking unit that is an MMPT charge controller for a similar price. I already have an emergency back-up but when I go to expand my system, that is where I will look.Update 2/26/2019 - I bought one of those MMPT charge controllers and was very disappointed - as another review said, the appropriate gauge wires do not easily fit inside as they do in this one. My second system was not working due to these wire difficculties so I pulled out my back-up charge controller and installed it and was immediately up and running.
