Gretel: A Horror Thriller (Gretel Book One)

I'm not really sure where the terrifyingly scary bits are in this (maybe I'm just immune or too insensitive to such things now) but it was a good twist on the traditional Hansel and Gretel story giving it a more modern and disturbing edge with a good bit of good old greed and power thrown in for good measure. I did find some bits of the story a bit slow and it did take a little while to get into but it was worth it, especially when the secrets begin to be revealed and the truth behind their mother's disappearance becomes apparent. While there were some issues with this, I reckon it is a series worth persevering with as there is definitely the potential and basis for a great series.

OK I'm really sorry to only give 1star but only got as far as chapter 7 before I lost the will to live.What starts in a very promising way with lots of colour and emotive language dwindles away to a sense of boredom. I wanted so much to enjoy this tale but was sadly disappointed.

Sorry, but managed 40% before giving up. Nothing happened! It was neither scary nor suspenseful and droned on for pages and pages about nothing in particular and nothing interesting. Think it reads more like a YA book. Didn’t really enjoy it.

WOWSER, this book was so scary I nearly wet myself a couple of times!!! Thankfully I kept control of my bladder!I am looking forward to Book two with trepidation/anticipation!

I really couldn't get into this, very hard to invest in any of the characters over the first thirty pages or so, very clunky and forgettable. In fact I'd forgotten I started it until Amazon asked me to review it! Not sure who managed to describe it as either 'gripping'or 'horror'.

The second half of the book is far better than the first, I found it hard going to read but I can see how the storyline works.It just didn't grip me enough to want to read the other three in the series...

It was a good twist on the original story, however, I found myself losing interest and skipping large chunks in the middle.

A most unusual thriller/horror. Strong characters, cleverly written. One of those books you can't put down. am looking forward to reading more from Christopher Coleman.
