Good while it lasted but dead after almost 3 years
Was a great rice cooker, quite slow to cook but perfect every time. However after almost 3 years of semi regular usage it was suddenly dead one day. Completely unresponsive, no screen activity, no cooking function. Tried fuse obviously, also took it apart but couldn't see any obvious lose connections.Would be acceptable for a cheap rice cooker but I was really expecting a long lasting machine at this price range.

Not bad but not great
I'm quite disappointed with the KeMar KRC-140, although its primary function is as a rice cooker, I was very keen to see how it performed as a slow cooker for soups and stews.I specifically wanted to be able to set a delay so that it doesn't start cooking until the ideal time and then for it to automatically go into a keep warm function after the set cooking time.Although this cooker does have both of these functions, you cannot use the delayed start for anything other than rice and although the instructions say the machine can be set to cook soups and stews for up to 8 hours, the machine itself won't actually allow you to set a longer period than 4 hours. The instructions also say to not fill it above the soup max line, however, the bowl it's supplied with doesn't actually have a soup max line (maybe a feature of the German language model and not printed on the English bowl perhaps?).The description of this cookers also says it can "saute meat, make fried rice, steam fish, fry eggs, etc", however nowhere in the instructions does it make any mention of this or give any indication of how to do this. The instructions are a little confusing too, nothing unsurmountable, but definitely not straight forward. The rice cooking function is superb, works exactly as expected and keeps the rice lovely and warm and moist after cooking for hours on end too.Ultimately, for the price, there are a lot better devices out there than [email protected]

Love this rice cooker !
Bought this 6 months ago and love it. My previous electric rice cooker had a nasty habit of drying out and browning the bottom of the rice, and worse still, it used to spatter water from round the edge of the lid when cooking.I looked long and hard before making my next purchase and most of the research put me in the path of Chinese machines (as per other reviewer) but the KeMar came up as an alternative, and a much cheaper alternative it must be said. This made me a wee bit concerned in case it would in some way fall short so I got in touch with the manufacturer / seller through Amazon and their own website and they were great at answering my questions. Fantastic customer service and I think it is worth saying that they seem to have taken on board the earlier reviewer's comments about language issues on their site.I was able to download a manual with recipes in English so thanks to KeMar and to the other reviewer for that.Cleaning is a dawdle - a wipe down round the lid and the non stick bowl comes out making it easy to rinse out with some warm soapy water.Operation is easy too, for example, to make white basmati rice enough for 2 - 3 people;Measure 2 cups of rice in the scoop provided (one scoop per person is what they state but it's a lot of rice !)Rinse it in a seive till the starchy water runs clearTip it into the bowl and try to make sure you dont get the rice stuck half way up the sidesPour in cold tap water to the level marked "2" on the inside of the bowl (good time to wash down any grains that did land on the sides)Close the lidPlug it inPress and hold the "cook" button (the default setting is for white rice so no need to change programme)It does take a wee while to come up to temperature and then cook but it is well worth the wait. I'd say around 40 mins until this is ready and the countdown timer comes on when there is 13 mins to go so you have plenty notice to get the stir fry on or whatever else you are having with it.There is a very faint beep when the rice is done and it automatically goes to a keep warm function and, joy of joys, this actually works ! No burnt bottoms, crisped up rice or the likes here though I must admit I've only left it for about 15 mins max. As I said at the beginning, my old one used to brown and crisp the rice straight away so you had to be on your toes to catch it.It comes with two plastic tools - a rice paddle and a rice ladle. I use the paddle to quickly fluff through the rice prior to serving and find the ladle ideal for that. It's silent in operation, vents steam through the top of the lid where it is meant to come out and I'm delighted to say, no water splashes to be seen !!The idea of the carry handle is ingenious and makes it that wee bit easier to put away.I took ages to find this and then even longer to take the plunge and buy itI'm delighted with it and can heartily recommend it :)
