Great Bluetooth Controller
Works great with the Anbernic RG353P, a Linux gaming handheld, with user setup required for whatever frontend you are using and with RetroArch. I imagine it is much simpler with other devices. Bluetooth connection was simple using the D-input mode and the controller remembers what mode and device you had it connected to, and gaming has no latency or interruptions whatsoever. I used the latest firmware on the manufacturer’s website and inputs were spot on. The battery lasts a long time and charges fast. Also ergonomics are really good for playing retro games. My only complaint, not a serious one, would be that holding the start button for 2 seconds is needed to turn on the controller, but the same goes for tuning it off too, a 2 seconds period of holding it down. This can mess up plans for hotkeys and such if you are into that. Alternative hotkeys can be set to R3+B to quit game for instance.

Nostalgia Meets Performance
This controller is fantastic. I got it mainly for my ROG Ally X and PC, and it connects flawlessly every time. The Hall Effect joysticks feel super smooth, and the classic SNES-inspired design is perfect for retro games while still handling modern ones really well. It’s compact, responsive, and works across all my devices, even tried it with my phone and Switch. Battery life is great, and the build quality feels premium. If you're into emulation, handhelds, or just love the retro vibe, this controller is a must.

Excellent retro controller.
A really great retro style controller. Works perfect on a Nintendo switch, I also use it on the macOS for games on the App Store. Has a good battery life. Good quality, sticks and buttons. A good price too.

Amazing classic style controller that's good for modern games too
For its price point, I've found this to be a phenomenal controller. If you're looking for a controller to play retro games with, or are simply a fan of the SNES form factor, I highly recommend this controller. Holding the controller feels great, while the lack of grips might be a deal-breaker for some. I found that the rounded ends of the controller melt into my palms, and holding it feels very natural. I tested this controller out by replaying Super Mario World, and it was by far one of my best experiences playing the game. The controller's smaller, more compact design also makes it a good size to take on the go. Importantly, this controller has everything you'd need to play modern games, including analog sticks, gyro functionality, triggers, and a share and home button. While it may not be my preferred controller for modern games, it works very competently and has me very satisfied. The analog sticks are also hall-effect, so no drift here! If you don't mind the lack of grips, you can buy this as just a standard controller for everyday gaming. Now, there are some things I will dock points off for. For one, there are some imperfections in the build; the buttons rattle a little, and you might have a trigger that is looser than the other by a small amount. However, these are not huge problems for me personally, and the controller is still wonderfully durable and well-made for its price; it definitely doesn't feel cheap, that's for sure. Additionally, the shoulder buttons are quite thin, comparable to those on the Switch 1 Joycons. If you're used to those shoulder buttons, you will probably be fine with them, though it won't be for everyone, and you might find it more comfortable to rest your index fingers on the triggers instead. Lastly, and my biggest issue, is the fact that connecting these controllers to a Switch or Switch 2 can be tedious at times. The controller will not connect automatically; you need to go into the "Change Grip/Order" menu each time to connect it. Additionally, I sometimes have to connect it twice because it disconnects as soon as I leave the menu. This is only a problem with connecting it to the console in the first place, and I've found that once it's connected, it keeps a stable Bluetooth connection with the console and has no noticeable latency. Overall, it has its slight imperfections, and the setup on Switch family consoles may be annoying. Still, for its price, it's an amazing controller—a solid recommendation if you want a retro-feeling controller without sacrificing modern features.

Highest compatibility controller in my stable
I have recently purchased a variety of popular controllers and play through Steam and Luna on Linux, both Bazzite and Mint. I also tested on Android, iOS, Windows 11, and Nintendo Switch. Several other controllers from 8bitdo and Gamesir are unrecognized or malfunction in X-input mode, and even the Microsoft licensed Hyperkin is only recognized as "generic Xbox controller" in Steam settings. This controller is recognized as "Xbox 360 controller" and works flawlessly in every mode with every service and operating system I have tried. Oddly, my other 8bitdo (ultimate 2c) is the least compatible of the lot. If you're a Windows user, you probably don't need to worry about any of this. The only time it was outclassed was when powering up a standard PS4 controller in front of Bazzite, I didn't even intend to pair it as I typically play wired anyway, but the OS instantly detected it and asked me if I want to trust it. The 8bitdo did require conventional byluetooth pairing but once paired everything worked and the 8bitdo button launches the Steam store by default. You give up a bit of the comfort afforded by larger modern controllers, but you gain the awesome retro flavor (the only reason I bought this in the first place), pocket ability while retaining rumble, and the most bulletproof compatibility I've seen from a peripheral.

The best controller ever!
If you use a controller and it's not this one, get it now! Easy to pair, durable battery and the most important thing it feels great on the hand.... For me this is the best design ever made (we know who designed the control but this one is wireless).

Oh how far this brand has fallen...
Worked for one day. Then it simultaneously got desync and drift so powerfully that i almost lost my No Man's Sky permadeath file. When you pay for a controller from 8BitDo (i am a long time user), you expect that not to happen. Combined with this and that other products require firmware updates just to work on Switch 2. And even then there's no guarantee if it will be any better or worse than this one, advertised to work with Switch 2 out of the box. Nintendo may be greedy pigs but when it comes to accessories and controllers, it would really behoove you to use official products. I know that's what i will be doing from now on.

Best controller ever
There's not a lot to say, these have been around for a while, and most people know about them, but I shoulda gotten one MUCH sooner because this is by far my favorite controller. I love the retro aesthetic and the fact that it's not some big heavy thing(not that other controllers are heavy themselves, but by comparison, at least the current xbox one is). And it's incredibly comfortable. And best of all it has hall effect sticks, which are supposed to be pretty much drift-proof, and it only costs $40. The only thing I can say that could be even remotely considered a complaint is the fact that you can't wake up a Nintendo Switch with it. It works on the console, but you have to boot it up and go into the "change grip order" thing every time you wanna use it. It's also a tiny bit disappointing that these used to come in color schemes/layouts that were almost exact clones of the controllers that obviously inspired them, and they no longer make those, for what are likely obvious reasons, but it's a shame... It also works for PC and Android. EDIT This is not a personal complaint, but it could be relevant information depending on what games you wanna play with this controller: The shoulder buttons are digital only, not analog. So if for some reason you really want this controller to play racing games with, and you need your shoulder buttons to work like a gas pedal, you're gonna need something else.

The ultimate "All-in-One" retro controller, Perfect for MiSTer!
If you are looking for a single gamepad that can handle almost every retro console in your library, this is the one to get. I use this primarily on my MiSTer FPGA, and it is fantastic. It captures that classic SNES feel perfectly but adds modern features like dual clickable joysticks and triggers, making it feel like a hybrid between a Nintendo classic and a DualShock. The addition of Hall Effect joysticks in this version is a huge upgrade, as it basically eliminates the worry of stick drift over time. The D-pad is also excellent, it’s firm and responsive, which is essential for platformers and fighting games. Whether I'm playing 16-bit classics or PlayStation 1 cores, this controller handles it all without needing to swap hardware. Pros: - Incredible Versatility: Works with everything from MiSTer and Steam Deck to Switch 2 and Android. One controller really does do it all. - Hall Effect Joysticks: Magnetic sensors mean no physical wear and tear on the sticks, ensuring long-term precision. - Authentic Feel: The form factor is a perfect tribute to the SNES, and the buttons have that classic "mushy but responsive" feel. - Modern Features: Includes rumble, motion controls, and a USB-C port for easy charging or wired low-latency play. - Portable: Its slim, flat profile makes it very easy to toss in a bag compared to bulkier modern gamepads. Cons: - Ergonomics for Long Sessions: Because it maintains the flat SNES shape, it doesn’t have the "handles" of a modern controller; if you have large hands, you might feel some fatigue after several hours of play. - Syncing: Switching between different devices (like moving from MiSTer to a Switch) requires remembering the specific button combos to change modes. Final Verdict: For retro enthusiasts, this is a must-have. It bridges the gap between old-school aesthetics and modern reliability perfectly. If you only want to buy one gamepad for your entire retro setup, this is the best candidate on the market.
