Vittles, songs and dance are amply ladled out when Judy Garland headlines 'The Harvey Girls', a joyous musical slice of Americana celebrating the restaurants that brought extra helpings of civilization to Old West rail passengers. Highlights include Garland holding saloon patrons at jittery gunpoint to retrieve stolen beefsteaks, Ray Bolger's loose-limbed comic hoofing, Virginia O'Brien's sure-shot comic timing, Angela Lansbury's stylish wickedness as a saloon singer and the 'On the Atchinson, Topeka and the Santa Fe' romp (nabbing it the 1946 Best Song Academy Award) that's "deservedly famous, one of the most triumphant sequences in screen-musical history" (Pauline Kael, 'The New Yorker'). All aboard!

Lifts you up to let you down.
Th opening sequence with Judy and full cast is best part of the film...It sets up your expectations for things to come.Alas, what comes is lots of talk and a bit of tap dance from Ray Bolger. Not one of Judy's best but glad to have it in my collection. However, I think I could have spent my money better.

I wasn't mad for this film
The performances of the acting is good, and Judy Garland is excellent as ever, however, the film is not like other musicals at all, the music is quite dull, and the songs very forgettable as they are not great. Overall I was disappointed in this film

Great Flim
One of my favourite Judy Garland musicals. A solid feel-good romp with a bit of everything thrown in, romance to action, comedy to suspense. The interactions between Garland and Ray Bolger (Co-starred in The Wizard of Oz together) are heart warming, their genuine warmth for each other bleeds through and they are a highlight for me. Would be nice if the film was in HD on Prime and a Blu-ray has recently been released with remastered video and audio. However, the Blu-ray is not available in the UK and with DVD's in their autumn years this is currently the best option in my opinion.

Fabulous film with some really great songs, I'm a big Judy Garland fan and this also stars Ray Bulger who played the scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz as well as a very young Angela Lansbury (Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Murder She Wrote) the only problem I had was the streaming of the film, it stopped 4 times and took ages to reload but that might have been my computer ?? The story : small town girl arrives in a new town in search of love and finds it in an unexpected place, the good girls against the not so good girls, great costumes, great songs and a well spent hour and half while the footie was on !
