Almost impossible to put down.
I started this book about 8pm on a Saturday night read until 12:30 am, as I read until I could not keep my eyes open. I finished the book on Sunday. Seeing everything Lisa endured was heartbreaking, so many times my hand would come to my mouth in shock with what was happening. Then John being told he is worthless by his father , broke my heart . No child should ever hear those words. You also shared some sweet moments of Isaiah and John . You even mentioned John eating the molasses cookies , which made me think of my grandmother she always made them . She passed when I was five but I can still remember the taste of those cookies. So many times through the book, I just wanted to give Lisa and John a hug. The fact that they were able to forgive him says so much about the type of people they are, they truly have beautiful hearts. You love your children so very much and it shows through every page of this memoir.

A well written memoir that will keep you turning the pages until you are finished. Difficult at times to read do to the emotions it can bring up but well worth it to its end. Those who have experienced abuse or who are stuck in an unhealthy relationship as well as those who know someone is in an abusive relationship will find this a book of hope. With a push, a nudge, encouragement life changes can be made no matter how difficult. This memoir shows that a little support from family and friends does indeed go along way to help that person reach in to find inner strength.

Thoroughly Captivating
This is a heart-wrenching memoir concerning a time when mixed-race children were considered a trouble, not a blessing. Extraordinarily well-written, Richesson's tale of survival as an outcast mom, as well as her eventual recovery is also notable for its measured humor and reaching insight. I found White Lady, Black Sons thoroughly captivating.

Excellent story. Amazing the things I didn't realize went on in this country when I was in high school. It's a shame things have not changed substantially. It is 2016!
