Art Vs. Premise--Art Wins! Premise is still Fun!
Assassin for hire Jintetsu of Steel wanders Edo period Japan just trying to survive. He was reborn in a mechanized doll's body whose sword not only speaks for him but has a personality all its own. If you buy the premise you are in for a fun, beautifully illustrated adventure. These adventures are framed around the services Jintetsu can provide whether it's a couple in an isolated mountain cabin or unraveling a complicated past between a brother and sister. Jintesu himself doesn't change that much as his character is fully formed already. The supporting cast changes around him, particularly Makoto, a girl sworn to kill him but who ends up helping out more often than not. The strongest story in this set features her. You could take up this volume without reading the others to understand what is going on.
