Orvis Encounter 6-Weight 9'0" Fly Rod Outfit (6wt, 9'0", 4pc)

I have been fly-fishing for 20+ years. I ordered this rod as an inexpensive rod while I was quarantined out of town. I had a line in the water for literally 3 hours, and while I was bringing in a very small trout (maybe 6 inches), and with almost no tension on the rod, the top section simply snapped in half!!!I called the seller and they were sold out of these rods and could not replace it. They suggested I called Orvis, which I did, and Orvis does not offer ANY warranty again manufacturing defects on these rods!! They must KNOW they are cheaply made. They said I could overnight the rod back to Orvis, pay a $60 "repair fee" and then 5 days later they would send out a replacement. So long in short, it broke in three hours because it is so poorly manufactured and then Orvis basically offered for me to pay almost the full rod price after I include overnight shipping, waiting more than a week and then getting a replacement.DO NOT BUY THIS ROD SET-UP. Order something else and you will be infinitely better off and may actually get to do some fishing. Ridiculous.

My buddy wanted me to go Fly Fishing with him and never had I indulged in such snobbery. I did not want to learn on his stuff so I bought my own. This was a great way to start in the sport with everything you need to fish without knowing what to buy. Fly line taper choices and weight differences, reel sizes etc is a lot to digest for the beginner. This set up allows you to learn while also understanding the basic components all with a decent quality package. Now that I have multiple rods and more expensive rods I can appreciate this set up still. One for getting me into Fly fishing and taking away that snobby perception of Fly fishing that I got from the local fly shop. There is a time to appreciate a 800$ rod when you are learning is not one of them don’t get oversold before you know if this sport is for you. Some people say don’t waste your money on a low end set up and save for something better and I would agree that you will buy more rods for sure if this is your first but is great to have as a loaner or a backup after your tastes have refined. I have no regrets and am still glad to have this set up. I paid almost as much just for fly line since so the value of the total package is incredible.

Great so far, used it a few times to fish mainly smaller brook trout and rainbows. Worked well, didn’t have any issues and it has good action. We’ll see how it holds up over time but I’m happy so far.

This rod snapped on me withen the first week. Shipped it back immediately, but it took a few weeks to get my money back. Spend a little more money and get somthing better quality, this rod is really weak

Incredible rod. Well worth the money. It hits every aspect I was looking for in a rod and at a reasonable price. Very sturdy, great flex to really whip some far and accurate casts. I’ve had a ton of fun with this thing. I’m not sure how it compares to it’s competetors but I’ve heard this is a great brand and it’s a brand that follows through. I am extremely pleased.

My first fly rod and I’m impressed. The guide who I paid for in Colorado was impressed also. He was shocked when I told him the price. Thank you.

Only used once limited out on brookies in 30 minutes . Cast nice . Fights nice . My reel took a crap . So I got this as a replacement . Was disappointed to see a plastic reel .but it fished really well
