*Update Below*It appears that I might have gotten a defective cable. I tried connecting with 3 different computers to 3 separate Cisco switches. None of them allowed a connection. I verified the switches were functioning properly by connecting a different console cable. I then uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. I tried it with putty, Tera term, and hyper terminal, but none of them worked, but no success.Judging by the reviews, I might be in the minority. Honestly the cable appeared to be an easy install. I connected it and Windows automatically downloaded the drivers. It recognized it right away as a USB Serial Port and assigned it a COM port. Seemed to be very streamlined. However, after that, I started running into issues as described above.Update-The Customer Service Department was top notch. The contact me because of the review and wanted to send out a replacement cable. I have been very busy since then and have not had the time to test the cable or update my review. Throughout, their Customer Service Department has been politely messaging me to confirm I received the cable and that it is working. They have continued to message me to check the status, and I appreciate their commitment. I recently was out of town on business, and I got a notice saying I received ANOTHER replacement cable in the mail. They are so committed to pleasing me that, despite my lack of communication, they just sent out a second cable to ensure I got it. I am happy to announce that it appears to work just fine and I am VERY happy with the cable as well as their commitment to helping their customers.

I used it to connect a laptop usb to firewall console port. This worked flawlessly. No drivers to install, just plugged in and it worked. Did not use amazon prime shipping, and it arrived a week earlier than said. Great cable, thick, bendable. Doesn't seem cheap. Worked on Windows 10 Pro, and Debian Linux.

I got toss cable delivered since and never used it until two days ago for a project. I was completely out of my luck because the cable was DOA. I tried a different cable and that worked, but this cable never worked. I'm not even sure how to return it.Update: the seller was kind enough to send me a new cable. I tested it and it works perfectly. Thanks for an outstanding customer service. I have changed my rating to 5 stars

Fast shipping and well packaged. Item worked as stated. Plugged it into a Windows 7 laptop and after it automatically found, downloaded and installed the driver, it told me it was serial port COM 7, and I was able to connect to my Cisco routers/switches with Putty without any issues. The only thing that irritates me is that I didn't buy this years ago, as I've had to use the "normal" serial cable with my desktop until now.

Like some of the other reviewers, mine did not work out of the box. It showed up correctly in devices when plugged into laptop, but was faulty cable. Interestingly, I went to M i c r o c e n t e r, and purchased one that looked EXACTLY the same, but stamped with different 'brand' for about twice as much. It showed up identically when plugged in, but worked perfectly with Cisco router. I am 100% sure that I was shipped faulty hardware on the cable. Zero chance of 'misconfiguration'. YMMV.Update: The seller contacted me and made an honest effort to correct the problem I experienced by replacing or refunding. I adjusted the rating above to indicate that they had addressed this problem with me satisfactorily.

Been using only 30 minutes though, lol.Word of advice on initial setup, as i just went through this and wanna help anyone who runs into the same issue.I bought this cable to connect a Windows 10 laptop to a Cisco 3750G Switch. The process was simple.-Connect cable to usb (2.0) on laptop and console port on switch-Go into device manager, find the cable (mine was listed under "other"), update the driver (which will move the device from other to its proper category)Here's where i ran into trouble. Once i did both of the above steps, i still could not console into the switch using putty. No clue as to why. Turns out, for whatever reason, the newly updated device driver defaults to COM3 (instead of COM1, which is what putty expects). So change COM1 to COM3 in the putty serial connection tab, open, and boom, should be in.Great cable.

When consoling into a Cisco equipment this is the easiest way to get hardwired in.

Whenever I plugged my cable into any Cisco switch/router, from any Host machine, any terminal displayed a blank screen, only having a cursor and nothing happened when I punched down any keys. I have another console cable, and I examined and compared the RJ45 pins of the two cables. Fortunate, Amazon made it easier and included a pinout diagram (on this web page) of the cable which corresponds to the pin numbers. It turned out my cable's colors was in the correct order (1 = Brown, 8 = Green), yet I think they turned the whole of the pin around, mismatching the pins and the colors. E.g. (RJ45 Pin) 1 = Green, 8 = Brown etc..I had spare RJ45 pins and a crimping tool. I then replaced their pin with one of my own, in the correct order, of course. Boom! It works!!Please ship me a working one next time :)It's been a while since I posted the original comment, fortunately the company has reached out to me and offered me a brand new one. Great Service!!

Yep, USB console cable. Works well, flat so it coils easily for storage. Not much else to say really.If you need a console cable, get one of these. Cheap and works well. Got mine to reset some cisco gear.
